स्वच्छता के क्षेत्र में हमने अनेक उपलब्धियां हासिल की हैं। लेकिन कई कठिन चुनौतियों का सामना भी करना है। Plastic तथा electronic waste पर नियंत्रण करना तथा उनसे होने वाले प्रदूषण को रोकना एक बड़ी चुनौती है।

मुझे यह जानकर प्रसन्नता हुई है कि waste management के क्षेत्र में देश के विभिन्न भागों में सफल start-ups आगे बढ़ रहे हैं। Zero-waste colonies अच्छे उदाहरण प्रस्तुत कर रही हैं। स्कूल में पढ़ने वाले बच्चे घर के बड़ों को स्वच्छता का सबक सिखा रहे हैं।

किसी भी वस्तु का कम से कम मात्रा में उपयोग करना, बार-बार उपयोग करना, पुरानी हो जाने पर उसी वस्तु का किसी दूसरे काम में प्रयोग करना तथा फेंकने और व्यर्थ करने से परहेज करना हमारी जीवन-शैली रही है।

स्वच्छता पर बल देना, प्राचीन काल से ही हमारी सांस्कृतिक और आध्यात्मिक चेतना का आधार रहा है। साफ-सफाई मेरे संस्कार और स्वभाव का और मेरे जैसे करोड़ों देशवासियों के संस्कार और स्वभाव का हिस्सा रहा है।

मुझे यह जानकर प्रसन्नता हुई है कि वर्ष 2024 के लिए आवासन और शहरी कार्य मंत्रालय द्वारा विश्व के सबसे बड़े स्वच्छता सर्वेक्षण का आयोजन किया गया। इस सर्वेक्षण में विभिन्न हितधारकों, राज्य सरकारों, शहरी निकायों तथा लगभग 14 करोड़ देशवासियों की भागीदारी सुनिश्चित की गई।
