Fancy something that goes against the narrative? Then try this puckish piece from Tim Leunig on the left case for Reeves. politicshome.com/opinion/articl…
Worth keeping this chart in mind when considering NHS resources. Very, very big increases in numbers of hospital doctors and nurses between first half of 2019 and first half of 2024. Much smaller increase in measured activity.
This is very smart politics…and has the added advantage that people will know Reform believes what they’re saying. Labour should beware Mums for Reform thetimes.com/article/160acf…
Some professional news: after six years @InstituteGC I’ll be leaving to join Stonehaven Public First to lead their Defence & Industrials team.
As in politico, delighted that @jeegarkakkad and Liv Walsham will be working with us (in Liv's case for the second time!) I'm a huge admirer of them both.

This is absolutely nuts. 4,000 new homes a year for a city of 9 million people.
The govt says London needs to build 88,000 homes a year. The latest data from @MoliorLondon, published today, shows private housebuilding is running at 1/20th of that figure. (1/)
Sometimes in your professional life your dreams come true. PublicFirst CEO @racheljanetwolf has hired @PJTheEconomist to be my colleague. I am very much looking forward to him joining us in the autumn. (1/2)
Absolutely delighted that @PJTheEconomist is joining us an adviser from August. He will make us sharper and better in every way. And I can also just buy popcorn and watch him and @timleunig debate in the office
I hated reading this piece because I immediately recognised so much of it!
The Ruffian has LANDED. This week: the strange business of growing older.
Any one who hasn’t been blamed in the last week…? Think so far I’ve read: the policy unit, the political office, the chief of staff, the cabinet secretary, the Chancellor, the treasury civil servants…
Downing Street increasingly has “buyer’s remorse” about new cabinet secretary who has only been running civil service for six months @rowenamason reports theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
I have been stewing over this story for two days. It is outrageous. I really hope the official is misremembering. (from @patrickkmaguire)

if only the Tsar knew!
"I wouldn't necessarily blame the Prime Minister, perhaps those who are advising him." Cat Eccles, Labour MP for Stourbridge, blames poor communications coming out of Downing Street for the Winter Fuel Allowance furore. @KateEMcCann | @StigAbell | @catecclesstour
Huge thanks to @mrianleslie for quoting this before I got round to posting about it...really enjoyed writing for the newly rebranded @restate_thinks alongside some v illustrious and interesting authors!
"We are in a crisis of democratic legitimacy because we have promised the State will solve more and more...yet it has delivered less and less." On the need for radical Whitehall reform, from @racheljanetwolf via @restate_thinks
Wrote in Politico today about what will happen next. There’s a risk of massively over complicating something very simple to diagnose and very hard to fix. politico.eu/article/shock-…
and once again, no one thinks these elections have anything to do with local government and its performance (because it doesn’t, because we’re stupidly centralised)
Britons' verdict on the past decade—nationally and in their own neighbourhoods.
Thrilled to have Shivani on board. So many of her former colleagues have congratulated me on managing to hire her!
After 3.5 great years @ukonward, I’ve joined Public First’s economics team. Thanks to all those that made my time at Onward so memorable. And excited for what’s ahead! I’ll be working on AI and job market dynamics and other fun things. If you’d like to chat, drop me a line.
