So happy to see this incredible achievement. Huge congrats to @lmthang, @quocleix, @YiTayML and the IMO team on the result. This was a great collaboration across teams to build a general Gemini DeepThink model that can also get gold at IMO.
Official results are in - Gemini achieved gold-medal level in the International Mathematical Olympiad! 🏆 An advanced version was able to solve 5 out of 6 problems. Incredible progress - huge congrats to @lmthang and the team! deepmind.google/discover/blog/…

Advanced version of Gemini Deep Think (announced at #GoogleIO) using parallel inference time computation achieved gold-medal performance at IMO, solving 5/6 problems with rigorous proofs as verified by official IMO judges! Congrats to all involved! deepmind.google/discover/blog/…
Very excited to share that an advanced version of Gemini Deep Think is the first to have achieved gold-medal level in the International Mathematical Olympiad! 🏆, solving five out of six problems perfectly, as verified by the IMO organizers! It’s been a wild run to lead this…
Super thrilled to share that our AI has has now reached silver medalist level in Math at #imo2024 (1 point away from 🥇)! Since Jan, we now not only have a much stronger version of #AlphaGeometry, but also an entirely new system called #AlphaProof, capable of solving many more…
We can't even be sure OpenAI's "gold medal" is legit. OpenAI stole the spotlight and overshadowed the kids who actually won. As per some leaks, DeepMind has won gold too but hasn’t said a word yet. Looks like they actually respected what the IMO asked. But as usual, OpenAI…
🚨 According to a friend, the IMO asked AI companies not to steal the spotlight from kids and to wait a week after the closing ceremony to announce results. OpenAI announced the results BEFORE the closing ceremony. According to a Coordinator on Problem 6, the one problem OpenAI…
Yes, there is an official marking guideline from the IMO organizers which is not available externally. Without the evaluation based on that guideline, no medal claim can be made. With one point deducted, it is a Silver, not Gold.

We might be heading into a plot twist in the OpenAI vs. DeepMind IMO saga. Just saw a post from Joseph Myers (involved in the Math Olympiad since 1992): the IMO committee reportedly asked AI labs not to publish results until 7 days after the closing ceremony — out of respect for…
DeepMind got a gold medal at the IMO on Friday afternoon. But they had to wait for marketing to approve the tweet — until Monday. @OpenAI shared theirs first at 1am on Saturday and stole the spotlight. In this game, speed > bureaucracy. Miss the moment, lose the narrative.

'Semi-supervised sequence learning' is also 10 years old too. Great to see language model pretraining and supervised finetuning has since been working out for some folks. arxiv.org/abs/1511.01432 w/ @quocleix (Work started off as an accident).
"A Neural Conversational Model" is 10 years old, w/ @quocleix . TL;DR you can train a chatbot with a large neural network (~500M params!). Samples 👇 This paper was received with mixed reviews, but I'm glad all the critics are now riding the LLM wave 🌊 arxiv.org/abs/1506.05869
Ten years ago today, @OriolVinyalsML and I published this paper on arxiv. Back then, we didn't know how to evaluate chatbots so we chatted with model and showed the samples in the paper. Glad that 10 years later, chatbots are still cool - and vibe-checking is going strong :-)

Gemini! 😋 The new 2.5 flash-lite has the same crazy research we landed in the 2.5 flash launched at google i/o. 😎 There's also a Gemini 2.5 tech report now. 🔥👇
Gemini 2.5 Pro + 2.5 Flash are now stable and generally available. Plus, get a preview of Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite, our fastest + most cost-efficient 2.5 model yet. 🔦 Exciting steps as we expand our 2.5 series of hybrid reasoning models that deliver amazing performance at the…
As highlighted yesterday at #GoogleIO, Gemini 2.5 Pro with #DeepThink mode achieved a new state-of-the-art performance of 49.4% on USAMO 2025, an extremely challenging Math benchmark for AI that requires detailed proof writing. I was analyzing the model outputs with our math…
It's been a wild run over the last 2 weeks to land Deep Thinking just in time for I/O! Heroic efforts across many teams @GoogleDeepMind from research to production that felt almost impossible last month! Proud of our research team for the relentless effort over the past 6 months…
There was a lot of announcements at IO, easy to overlook the new 2.5 Flash. It's pushing new boundaries in capability vs speed!
Amazing progress in reasoning! 🚀 Gemini 2.5 Pro Deep Think hitting 49.4% on USAMO – a feat I'd have considered impossible just a couple of years ago – & Gemini 2.5 Flash achieving 1424 Elo are huge leaps. So proud our team's research ideas contributed to this moment!…
crazy to see a wild research idea I dreamt about for a long time land into this Gemini 2.5 Flash! it's been amazing making this happen with @YiTayML and @quocleix, and the rest of the team!!!
🚨Breaking from Arena: @GoogleDeepMind's new Gemini-2.5-Flash climbs to #2 overall in chat, a major jump from its April release (#5 → #2)! Highlights: - Top-2 across major categories (Hard, Coding, Math) - #3 in WebDev Arena, #2 in Vision Arena - New model at the…

Deep Think in 2.5 Pro has landed. 🤯 It’s a new enhanced reasoning mode using our research in parallel thinking techniques - meaning it explores multiple hypotheses before responding. This enables it to handle incredibly complex math and coding problems more effectively.
