Our newest side quest is settling down: fractalgva.ch. The future is unevenly distributed. To be prepared, we have to bring it home. Since 2014, @MaximeStauffer and I have been building here. @jpsnoeij & @chiaragerosa joined in 2015. With @alix_ph we now accelerate.
Here is a pretty wild story of You Can Just Do Things In 2019, I dreamed about my ideal life. It included: 1. A walkable neighborhood – raising kids near ppl I love 2. A campus – working, learning, and researching alongside ambitious peers 6 years later... 🧵

the heatwave makes me understand why they call us europoors there is just no escape, anywhere. you’re expected to just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and wait it out imagine the productivity we could unlock if the collective mindset wasn’t stuck in this absurd degrowth mode

"The notion of a singular AI race...fails to capture the true complexity of the rivalry...The challenge is to win not one definitive contest but a multifront competition whose outcome will shape the internat'l balance of power." My latest with @jim_mitre. foreignaffairs.com/united-states/…
New favorite kind of affordable housing propaganda. A great few economics lessons in this thread.
There aren't many US tailors bc the cost of living is too high. To pay $3.5k rent, you need to make $10k/ month, which won't happen as a tailor, let alone an apprentice. If you move to a cheaper area, there are fewer customers and shops. This is why we need affordable housing.
The idea for a "CERN for AI" is gaining traction, but encompasses many different visions. Read below for a breakdown of what CERN is, current proposals, and open questions. 👇 simoninstitute.ch/blog/post/cern…

I'm pretty confident we won't have AGI/country of geniuses in a datacenter within 2 years. I like ai-2027 as a piece of futures work, but I think too many people are treating it as a mainline scenario, rather than unlikely-but-not-impossible. I think this is resulting in too…
