I wrote about Zachary Leader's "Ellmann's Joyce" for @insidestorymag , on one of the twentieth century's great biographies: insidestory.org.au/richard-ellman…
Saddened to hear of the death of Stephen Charles. He was very generous to me with his time, memories, and insights when I came asking about his role in the censorship fights in the 1970s. A great loss to the community.
A tribute: The Hon Stephen Charles AO KC The Centre for Public Integrity Board and staff are deeply saddened by the passing of our much-loved founding Board member, the Hon Stephen Charles AO KC. Stephen was a brilliant jurist, a fierce advocate, and a man whose decency and…

#NEWonSRB: Reviewing Nicholas Jose’s The Idealist, @pjfmullins chronicles Australia’s inglorious involvement in East Timor, highlighting the importance of fiction in extricating a true history from the convenient obfuscations of national mythology. buff.ly/hBbeJH7

Delighted and relieved to receive these weighty tomes tonight. Five years (!) of work all nestled in a neat box set.

I wrote about @david_day_’s new biography of Bob Hawke for the September @AustBookReview: australianbookreview.com.au/abr-online/cur…

Didn’t loosen up until the court case on ‘Portnoys’s Complaint’ in the 70s. Mad Ted! This is a very cool book on it by @pjfmullins who appeared on @CensoredPod about Irish censorship a couple of years ago.
'Permanent exclusives' is perhaps my favourite new way of saying it's a story so whack-a-doodle no one wants to touch it.
It’s Sy Hersh. Did some great work earlier in his career. His last decade+ of work is a series of sensational “scoops” that remain exclusives to this day. You might call them permanent exclusives.
My newest. An essay on the memoir, religious faith, and a somewhat vanished Australia.

“Poetry has had a long association with war — think the Iliad and Odyssey — and at the time of WWI it enjoyed a public currency that has become much devalued.” Patrick Mullins reviews ‘Muse of Fire: WWI As Seen Through the Lives of the Soldier Poets’ inside.org.au/the-poets-war
I reviewed Michael Korda’s new Muse of Fire, for @insidestorymag : insidestory.org.au/the-poets-war/
