The issue is that some atrocities are remembered as global tragedies. Others are footnotes, or “complex history,” or not taught at all because the victims weren’t seen as fully human by the colonizers or the history books.

I know I'm glib and it's annoying but SNAP has a high economic multiplier. It pumps money into local businesses, increases demand, reduces crime. For every $1 spent on SNAP, our GDP grows by $1.80. Basically there's no negatives unless you hate seeing poor people fed.

the real story here is the *extreme* dedication of the protesters and their absolutely dogged commitment to one another.

the protests are inherently violent because even if the protesters are non-violent, the state will bring the violence. at this point, every protest in this country is and will be a violent protest. the only decision to make is whether to match the state.
