Today entering Gaza City. The ruins of life. A donkey laying dead attached to a cart with someone’s possessions. Clusters of people crossing to the South, with too much to walk with under the sun and given the length of the journey. A man carrying a white flag in front of his…
📍 Gaza | The scale of human suffering and the stripping of human dignity have long exceeded every acceptable standard, both legal and moral. This tragedy must end now. Mirjana Spoljaric, ICRC President 👉🏽 ms.spr.ly/6014sGyPq
"A mother pressed a final kiss to what remained of her 5-month-old daughter and wept. Esraa Abu Halib’s baby now weighed less than when she was born." "The baby was brought to the pediatric department of Nasser Hospital on Friday. She was already dead."
.@WHO’s staff residence in Deir al Balah, #Gaza, was attacked three times today as well as its main warehouse. Israeli military entered the premises, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot toward Al-Mawasi amid active conflict. Male staff and family members were…
UNRWA has enough food for the entire population of #Gaza for over three months stockpiled in warehouses–including this one in Al Arish, Egypt–awaiting entry. The supplies are available. The systems are in place. Open the gates, lift the siege, allow UNRWA to do its work and…
We hold all parties to the standards of international law. We don’t have to choose – and we must not choose – between ending the starvation of civilians in #Gaza and demanding the unconditional release of hostages. My remarks at Security Council:
"Today, civilians are being killed while waiting for water. Starving children are being killed while waiting for food. Humanitarian workers are being killed while saving people in Gaza. "I am afraid what might no longer be possible to salvage... is our collective dignity."
And 10 children per day lose one or both of their legs. 20 months of intense hostilities have destroyed the protection environment for persons with disabilities and older persons. Protection Cluster outlines 5 key protection risks in this regard requiring immediate attention.
Excited to share this new piece on why @hrw is calling for gender apartheid to be recognized as a crime under international law. This comes after long & careful discussion w/many colleagues about if there is need for such a law and any potential downsides. justsecurity.org/116780/gender-…
Truckloads of food and medical supplies are waiting in warehouses outside #Gaza. Stop the starvation. Lift the siege. Let the UN, including UNRWA, do its lifesaving work.
Yet again, we're seeing horrific reports of the killing of seven children in Gaza this time as they were waiting for water at a distribution site. UNICEF calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, aid at scale and release of hostages.
We’re appalled by the reported killing in Gaza today of children and women waiting in line for nutritional supplies provided by UNICEF’s partner organization, Project HOPE. The killing of families trying to access life-saving aid is unconscionable.👇 unicef.org/press-releases…
This is Salam, just under 7 months old and suffering from serious acute malnutrition. Yesterday, UNRWA health teams were giving her emergency treatment. Sadly, Salam died later in the day. She is one of thousands of malnourished children in Gaza. More cases are detected every…
I strongly condemn the latest series of large-scale drone & missile attacks on Ukraine by Russia. The power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was disrupted – once again underlining the ongoing risks to nuclear safety. I reiterate my call for a full, immediate &…
I am appalled by the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The last lifelines for survival are being cut off. Without an urgent influx of fuel, incubators will shut down, ambulances will be unable to reach the injured and sick, and water cannot be purified. The @UN has a clear…
Senior IDF officers admit unarmed civilians were killed by "inaccurate and uncalculated" fire in Gaza haaretz.com/israel-news/20…
Israeli forces and drones opened fire toward hundreds of Palestinians waiting for aid in separate incidents in southern and central Gaza early Tuesday, killing at least 44, witnesses and hospitals said apnews.com/article/israel…
📍Gaza Today, the 60-bed Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah received a mass casualty influx of 149 cases. Tragically, 16 were declared dead on arrival, and three more died of their wounds shortly thereafter.
"More than 1 in every 50 UNRWA staff in #Gaza has been killed in this atrocious conflict. This is the highest staff death toll in United Nations history," United Nations Secretary-General @antonioguterres told the press ahead of the annual memorial service in honour of @UN…
I am appalled by the reports of Palestinians killed and injured while seeking aid in Gaza yesterday. It is unacceptable that Palestinians are risking their lives for food. I call for an immediate and independent investigation into these events and for perpetrators to be held…
