On the left, the figure of Clementine in Barry’s picture. On the right, the figure of a woman in Churchill’s painting of Hoe Farm done the previous year (1915). Note the similarly brash, simplistic handling. #fakeorfortune

Could a £140 Ardingly Antiques Fair purchase turn out to be a lost treasure by the 41 year old Winston Churchill, the year after he took up painting? Place your bets for this evening’s Fake or Fortune? episode at 9pm on BBC

Fake or Fortune? is back one week from today. BBC1 21st of JULY 9pm. Here is a quick overview.
Tell us who you think deserves a National Blue Plaque! We celebrate inspirational people from all walks of life and we are able to consider nominations by 17 July at bit.ly/NominateBluePl… vimeo.com/948262519/db43… Here is one we did earlier….
It’s #NationalMeadowsDay! In the face of great national loss of our traditional meadows we at Plantlife - and many others - have been working hard on restoring them from the impact of intensive farming and other woes since the War. At home, twenty years of cutting and collecting…

Publicity shots today for new series of Fake or Fortune? coming out BBC1 9.00pm 21st July.

The artist, Stanley Grimm, exhibited this striking portrait at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London in 1959 under the title “Chef from Antigua”. The name of the subject is currently unknown but it may well emerge. On show at Treasure House fair, Chelsea.
To my mind the masterpiece of the astounding Cartier show @V_and_A I saw this morning. Commissioned by Mexican film star Maria Felix in the late 60’s, its diamond studied body is flexible, and will wrap around your neck!
This almost unknown portrait of a young Henry VIII in his thirties by a Franco-Flemish artist (late 1520s) is leaving the Gallery to join an important public collection. But what is the artist trying to tell us? The ring he is holding is a mystery.

A symbolic mystery… Discoloured varnish disguised not only the features and skin tone of the boy(c.1680) but also what now appears(?) to be a blue tit in his hand (old fashioned name being titmouse). Coud this be some coded message to do with the unknown child’s identification?
Loving the Sienna Show @NationalGallery It serenely marks the moment that western art becomes emotional (1280’s onwards).

Fake or Fortune? verdict day for an 18th century portrait. Could it be a lost work by Angelica Kauffman, a founder of the Royal Academy? Series 13 coming this summer!

Opening for patrons of Munch portraits at NPG last night. Brash, hit-and-miss, genius.
Filming series 13 of Fake or Fortune? at @BlenheimPalace in the Indian Room this morning.

First day’s filming with Gallery Dog Cedric at the gallery. FakeorFortune?

Lights, camera, bark! Gallery dog Cedric being driven to his first day’s filming for Fake or Fortune? series 13.

Astonishing degree of realism - a millennium before the Renaissance - in this Roman funerary bust (3rd Century AD) at the Museo Correr, Venice today.

Our first discovery of series 13 of FakeorFortune? is not a painting, but a tree heaving with unharvested Christmas mistletoe. Can you guess where?

Dora Carrington, enigmatic, forever evolving, and whose short life produced some arresting images @PallantGallery. Worth a trip. Above of her beloved Lytton Strachey C.1916.
