Husband of 1 wife. Father of 4 children. Pastor of a Congregation in Mission. Old Fogey.
In two cases today, the minority opinion boils down to "Why don't you want children to see porn?" It would only have taken a couple of small changes along the line for that to be the majority opinion. God has been more gracious than we deserve.
After a terrible rain storm that flipped our tents over last evening, my wife managed to repack and reorganize an entire Ford Expedition full of camping supplies without removing anything from the vehicle. You can be impressed now.
"You know what will really keep kids bound to the church? Cringe events and crappy music. They will never leave if we give them that."
As a rural person with crappy broadband, I would like to reassure NPR that I can live quite comfortably without them. If they are so vital, I'm sure they can find sponsors for their programs, without using my tax $$$.
Pastor friends go to Africa for mission trips, and report back: It was only 114 today... Me, an ethnic Canadian: It's almost 80 out. Time to head indoors and get some ice water.
LCMS: Our Call Documents are so secret, even pastors can't get a look at them. Only calling congregations can get access to the passwords. (Retina scan optional) Lutheran Church Canada: Here are the same documents. Download as you wish.
Back in the day, soap operas found that viewers were only seeing about ever other episode, so the plot moved slowly, with reviews built into the daily script. I've begun doing a similar thing for my sermons. The lectionary is designed for it. Especially during "vacation season".
Many years ago, I signed emails "Bishop of >place I serve<". I stopped because it deeply offended online folks. Today I started again. If online folks are offended, they can read and learn from the scripture what the term "episcope" means. That is all.
To be helpful, yesterday I got a chicken out of the freezer and put it in the fridge. This morning, also being helpful, my wife got one out and put it in the sink to defrost. It's like The Gift of the Magi, but without the dramatic irony.
The US has a massive shortage of houses... In places with great weather and/or pretty views. Looks like the market is working.
New @AEI map: US housing shortage visualized by county. Under an estimated ~6M housing shortfall, the geographic imbalance is staggering. Counties in red face deficits ≥15% of their housing stock.
Sat night there was a break in at an abandoned restaurant/liquor store in town. Sunday, local radio station reported there was a fight between them, and one of them died. Today police announced "He's not dead yet!" My town is literally a Monty Python sketch.
Hundreds are gathering today in Chugwater Wyoming . They are celebrating chili at the annual Chili Festival. No politics. Just yummy yummy chili. As it should be.
