This is the leak that cost BritCard. Leading up to the repeal of the Identity Cards Act [2006], combined data breaches from HMRC, NHS & MoD shifted public sentiment further against National ID. Due to the Afghan data leak & its estimated cost, BritCard is dead.

The MoD are responsible for the biggest data breach in British history. We cannot ever accept a National ID system in Britain. No if's, no but's, it's not happening.

Labour have been pushing National ID since 2001. Blunkett once called them 'Entitlement Cards'. Now they're using 'Digital ID' in a modern, duplicitous iteration to soften & trick opposition. The UK made its decision to repeal ID cards in 2010 & that is how things must stay.

One of the most common false equivalence arguments used in the 'ID' debate: "We identify ourselves all the time using our phones, so why the concern about a govt ID". We don't explicitly verify our real-world identity through every single phone app or system process.

The most successful of arguments for #IDCards and other government controlled identification systems is the entirely circular one that it will help you comply with demands for identification (in some sense) that exist only because government mandates them. Few people spot it.
