I'm thinking of using baked animations for my breakables with some flying particles bits. It's very cheap and looks pretty convincing. We just can't interact with the pieces and it repeats visually, but I think it's ok with enough variations.
This is nonsense. Portfolio is king, always has been. If you're good, you're good, no matter how you got there. It's that simple. What matters is that you don't stop learning, not how you learn.
