26th July 2004 - Andy Parkinson scores the Grimsby goal as they draw 1-1 with Dutch side Willem II at Blundell Park. New manager Russell Slade giving special praise to his midfield pairing of Thomas Pinault and Terry Fleming. "I though Pinault was outstanding in midfield." #GTFC

27th July 2010 - Some interesting names in the Gainsborough lineup as Grimsby draw 0-0 with them at The Northolme in a pre-season friendly. Att: 742 #GTFC

27th July 2000 - Grimsby Town's game against Tranmere at The Brandywell in the final of the Derry City Cup is abandoned after 19 minutes as news reaches the ground of the death in a car accident of @derrycityfc Chairman Kevin Friel earlier in the day. RIP #GTFC #TRFC #RAWA28


27th July 1996 - Grimsby open their Scottish tour at Dunfermline with a 3-3 draw thanks to goals from Clive Mendonca, Nicky Southall & Neil Woods #GTFC Pearcey, McDermott, Jobling (Southall), Handyside, Smith, Gallimore, Widdrington, Shakespeare, Woods, Mendonca, Black. Att 2700

26th July 1987 - Grimsby Town Wembley playoff final winner Nathan Arnold is born in Mansfield. Nathan played for the Mariners between 2014 and 2016 scoring some brilliant and important goals, the most famous sealing promotion back to the football league. #GTFC
26th July 1994 - Grimsby Town beat Linfield 3-0 on their Northern Ireland tour. Clive Mendonca scores twice with Paul Groves also on target for the Mariners in front of 731 at Windsor Park, home of Linfield and the National Team. #GTFC @OfficialBlues




26th July 1936 - Future Grimsby Town manager Lawrie McMenemy is born in Gateshead. Lawrie guided Town to the Division Four title in 1971/72 before leaving for Southampton in 1973 where he won the FA Cup. He embraced the community like no other whilst at Grimsby. UTM #GTFC

25th July 2001 - Grimsby Town draw 1-1 with Danish side Koge BK on the final game of their Scandinavian tour thanks to an Alan Pouton penalty three minutes from time. A feisty affair sees Bradley Allen and Tommy Olsen "asked" to leave the field following an altercation. #GTFC



25th July 1972 - Grimsby Town's promoted heroes swap their football kit for cricket whites, but are all out for 69 against a Cleethorpes XI at Cleethorpes Cricket Club. Allan Gauden top scoring for the Mariners with 22, Swain taking 5-25 for the hosts. #GTFC



25th July 1961 - Grimsby sign 23 year old forward Cliff Portwood from Port Vale for £5750. Cliff scored 36 goals in 97 games for the Mariners. After football he became a singer, with his career taking him to Australia where he had his own TV show. He died in 2012 aged 74. #GTFC

25th July 2015 - "We successfully raised £111,193 with 2004 supporters in 55 days" is the Crowd Funder statement as The Mariners Trust's fantastic Operation Promotion fundraising campaign for Grimsby Town closes. UTM #GTFC
