Ouch. Found an entire university course (MSU, MIT) about software performance. There isn't a single lecture about testing or benchmarking, let alone Continuous Benchmarking... …are-performance-engineering.github.io/fall25/syllabu…
Turso alpha 0.1.2 released! Highlights: 📊 Initial change data capture (CDC) support 💻 Improved language bindings 🔨 Bug fixes and performance improvements
I previously wrote a rather lengthy blog about the history of Apache Otava and the people who contributed to get us to this point.
Releases: Apache Otava (incubating) 0.6.1, Nyrkiö/change-detecion v2.0.2 and git-perf 0.1.0 This is the first release of what used to be called Hunter under its new name Apache Otava. It's a big deal! blog.nyrkio.com/2025/07/18/rel…
The fact that bsd `indent` is almost 50 years old (and still in use!) is mind blowing to me. Is this the oldest bit of software still used today?
Automated Correctness Testing. Automated Performance Testing. This is how Turso will match the legendary reliability of SQLite.
Busy days at @tursodatabase ! Benchmarks are running hot for each PR that gets merged. Yesterday saw a record 7600 performance metrics tracked. Yes, in a single day. Possible only with automated change detection.

Apparently the "Performance Engineering" name was coined in 1981 by Dr. Connie Smith. The panel of founders at #ICPE25.
#ICPE 2025 proceedings can be found here: Proceedings: dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?i… Companion: dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?i… (following ACM access rules ) It is a pity that recordings are not available- especially for exceptional keynotes by Lizy John, Ahmed E. Hassan, and @MarcJBrooker.
I presented '#Performance Engineering: New and Conflicting Trends' at the WEPPE workshop at #ICPE2025. Slides alexpodelko.com/docs/WEPPE25_P… and short paper dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/36…. The goal was to stir up a discussion - which it did.
#ICPE2025 highlights. Dr. Lizy John's keynote lca.ece.utexas.edu/pubs/icpe25_Ke… is probably the best AI review for #performance engineers I saw so far.
#ICPE2025 highlights. Dr. Ahmed E. Hassan's keynote linkedin.com/posts/ahmed-e-… dived into how Foundational Models change Software #Performance Engineering. @ICPEconf
#ICPE2025 Highlights. Finally I met in person @h_ingo . First I reached out to him about MongoDB's change point detection paper (ICPE2020) - now it became Apache Otava project - see history and details in Henrik's blog post blog.nyrkio.com/2025/05/08/wel…
The nice thing about building a SaaS service. If you invest in sufficient testing and automation, it doesn't require a lot of handholding to run smoothly in production.

I have been putting off this blog post on the CMU 15-721 Advanced Database Systems 2024 course for so long now... Anyhow, it's now the time for me to post it! If you want to learn about my experience of going through this amazing program by @andy_pavlo, just ready my blog!
