🐴 NYCLASS works to to end carriage horse abuse and gain legal protections for all animals through legislative action and activism.📣
Assistant DA Sophie Robart said: “Ryder was underweight. His ribs and spine were protruding. He was panting, his tongue hanging out, and McKeever kept driving him,” she said. “This horse was frail and feeble — and his body gave out.” #RydersLaw w42st.com/post/carriage-…
Our animal shelters are overcrowded, and ACC has now announced they can’t take in any more surrenders. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable. We’re in a full-blown crisis, and it’s going to take real solutions—not silence—from the city. That’s why I introduced a bill to…

We stood with @nyclass outside NY City Hall to say that horses will NEVER be safe as long as they’re forced onto NYC’s chaotic streets. The court failed Ryder. Now it’s up to us!
NYCLASS, said the defendant in the case got a “get out of jail free” card. This wasn’t just abuse of a cancer-ridden, elderly, sick horse who was worked to the point of collapse and death. It was criminal abuse, and @nycHealthy signed off on it.” amny.com/news/animal-ad…
It’s long past time to pass Ryder’s Law. This abuse has gone on far too long. Cities around the world have already moved to humane alternatives. It’s time New York finally does the same.
“Lynn Schulman, what’s your excuse? You’re enabling horse abuse.” @Lynn4NYC is blocking a hearing on #RydersLaw while @nycHealthy signs off on skeletal, sick, elderly horses like Ryder to be worked to death. This is cruelty — and you’re complicit. Do your job. Hold the hearing.
I’m proud to an original co-sponsor Ryder’s Law, which would ban the use of horse-drawn carriages in NYC. Ryder’s death sparked a movement. We owe it to him—and all horses still suffering—to end this outdated, inhumane practice once and for all.
I am extremely disappointed by today’s verdict in case of Ian McKeever, the carriage horse driver charged. Ryder’s collapse and death exposed the cruelty of NYC’s carriage horse industry. This acquittal is a painful failure of justice—but it won’t silence the call for change.
Ryder was failed again. So disappointing and sad. Rest in peace Ryder. We love you. 🙏🏻😢💔🪽🌈🕊️💜🙏🏻
🚨BOMBSHELL: A juror in the Ryder abuse trial says @nycHealthy & @NYCMayor should’ve been on trial alongside the driver—for approving a sick horse to work, who later collapsed and died. He says he regrets the verdict. 📢 @LynnSchulman: Hold a hearing on #RydersLaw 🎥 Watch:
We must outlaw carriage horses. Ryder’s story is a tragedy and sadly all-to-common. Horses deserve to run free, not be forced to work in extreme conditions. This is inhumane and I will fight tirelessly alongside @nyclass until we get this done. nytimes.com/2025/07/21/nyr…

If this isn’t animal cruelty then I don’t know what is — a horrifying miscarriage of justice. 📢We are not done fighting. Horse carriages don’t belong here. @nyclass @theanimalvoters nytimes.com/2025/07/21/nyr…
This is a travesty of justice. Ian McKeever knew Ryder’s true age — the horse was nearly 30 years old, the equivalent of a 90-year-old human — and still chose to force him to work on the scorching streets of Manhattan. As seen in widely circulated video footage, McKeever was…

🚨Dr. Camilo Sierra, the carriage industry vet, examined Ryder and told media he was “weak, underweight… no pull, no energy… of course it’s going to collapse” and should not have been pulling a carriage. Yet he testified for McKeever, who claims Ryder just “tripped.” @GainerTV

Heartbreaking news about Ryder. Ban these carriages now! There’s no reason for horses to be amidst the traffic. Until they’re banned, use your own two feet, humans!
“He never should’ve been working that day—or in the weeks or months before.” ASPCA forensic vet: Ryder was emaciated, in pain & riddled with cancer when he collapsed & died. @Lynn4NYC Shut this abuse down. Pass Ryder’s Law: nyclass.org/stophorseabuse w42st.com/post/he-never-…
