🍎Thank you, Nicole La Rocco, STEAM Teacher at Sherlock Elementary School for going above and beyond for our students and all that you do for @D99Cicero! #WeMoveForwardTogether #SomosSherlock🦈 #ThankATeacher
@D99Cicero I strive to help my students grow not just academically but also socially and emotionally. The best part of being a teacher is seeing the growth in our students and seeing them blossom in wonderful, empathetic, caring young adults!
.@D99Cicero’s BPAC = Squad Goals. We love a large, engaged group of parent advocates, and with matching shirts, at that! #ilbilingualparents23
Congratulations to the Unity Jr. High bowling teams for making it to the @IESA_IL State Tournament for the 2nd year in a row! The girls took 5th place overall and the boys took 21st! Congratulations to 8th grader Summerlyn Robinson for finishing as the 14th best bowler in IL!
2nd graders use fiction (“Bear Alert,” by @artofdavid) and nonfiction (nps.gov/subjects/bears…) to create a Bear Alert warning sign for hikers and campers. #SomosSherlock #WeAreSherlock #WeMoveForwardTogether #ilumina99 #Ignite99

Thank you @EliseLovejoy for your books. A student I work with just started reading. That was his goal and he loved your book!! There’s nothing like seeing a student read and be successful after all of his struggles! Your decodables are fantastic!!!❤️
Great quote from @Billbrowder: “Russia is fastidiously bureaucratic. They keep track of everything.” Like the Nazis before them, taking photos and writing reports of their crimes.

From the author of “Double Cross,” Macintyre delivers another well-researched narrative nonfiction WWII-era book. The myriad strategies the prisoners use to try to escape the castle make this an entertaining read.

The theme of “The Good Earth,” by Pearl S. Buck—a fictional cycle of wealth taken for granted, then squandered, has been replicated in our world many times. This biography of Anderson Cooper’s family is a prime example. It’s an interesting look at over 300 years of history.

Doerr’s 2nd Pulitzer-winner weaves together twice as many stories as the 1st. Combining historical fiction with futuristic sci-fi made following the story a challenge. Ultimately, this is a book about the beauty of the human condition, both good and bad. #pulitzer

This WWII-era book brings together parallel stories connected by the “Sea of Flames” jewel. Doerr’s book raises the question of whether luck and curses exist, with the Jewel bringing back luck to the possessor’s loved ones. #pulitzer

Ms. Dove’s and Mrs. Sierra’s kindergartners listened to “The Spider.” They watched art teacher, Mrs. Gordon draw the spider from @EliseGravel’s book. The kindergartners added words to their drawings. #SomosSherlock #WeAreSherlock #Ignite99 #ilumina99 #WeMoveForwardTogether

CLASSROOM CLOSEUP 👀 1st graders in Ms. Sell's class at Sherlock learned about Mayan, Aztec & Inca civilizations! They wrote paragraphs about what they learned & even created their own chinampas! Students also watched a presentation that showcased Aztec dancing & drumming!
So proud that District 99 in Cicero, IL shifted our thinking to follow reading research & will be adopting a knowledge building curriculum moving forward. We’re on a really good path to getting all kids to read. Excited to see the continued growth & changes we make!
