As I have said from Oct 7, the Israeli right's messianic campaign to "pacify" the Middle East by force is unwinnable. It is just a spiral of misery in which the use of violence is followed by even more violence amid regional escalation. See madman Smotrich's remarks now:

HUGE DEAL Israel's #1 news station reports on mass hunger in Gaza "People spend 24 hrs a day looking for food and some simply cannot get it... we must look at reality as it is."
💥Remember this day, the day Israel's #1 watched news broadcast reported that there is hunger in Gaza. @ohadh1 @LeviYonit #stopthewar #savethehostages #Gaza #Israel
How many handshakes does it take you to get to Epstein? 0. Me. 1. My German primary school's aged bus driver who went to a military parade as a child where the head of state mingled with the crowd. 2. Hitler. 3. Hindenburg. 4. Adenauer. 5. Kohl. 6. Merkel. 7. Trump. 8. Epstein.

Israel's Channel 13 just released another very weak poll for Netanyahu: his block only gets 48 mandates. Sadly, this makes escalation in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria or against Iran only more likely. Until he is toppled (one word by Trump would be enough), things won't improve.
I currently find right-wing online culture roughly as alienating and insufferable as I found left-wing online culture in the 2010s, but I already saw where things were going from the DM group meltdowns I witnessed in that time./10

Who would have thought that?

Neither Lapid, nor Gantz voted today in favor of annexing the West Bank. The Labor Party voted against. One can criticize the Israeli opposition for not opposing Netanyahu forcefully enough - but only after acknowledging that they are indeed much more moderate.
In the vote on annexing the West Bank, opposition MKs to vote for the motion included Idan Roll (formerly of Yesh Atid), & all of Yisrael Beytenu. Opposition MKs voting against were from Arab parties, & all of Labor. Yesh Atid & National U MKs absented themselves from the vote.
Israel politics watchers should watch Idan Roll. Not b/c he represents many, but precisely b/c he doesn't. An openly gay ex-model, Roll typifies the tiny segment of white-collar reactionaries alienated from their very liberal environment whom Netanyahu wrongly sees as his base.

The daughter of Israel’s most famous writer, Amos Oz, calling on all soldiers to refuse to serve in Gaza. This may seem like nothing to some, or too late, or whatever, but it’s a tectonic shift there. And she’s right, of course.

As I predicted yesterday, the Knesset just passed the (non-binding!) West Bank annexation resolution. While this vote has no legal effect in itself, it makes it more likely that Netanyahu will try to deflect from all sorts of domestic troubles by going forward with annexation.
The Knesset will likely tomorrow okay a (non-binding) resolution in favor of annexing the West Bank. Possibly a prelude for Netanyahu's govt to escalate further and to go forward with annexation to please the settlers.
The UK recognizing Palestinian statehood would likely destabilize Netanyahu's government. Not because it will sway Bibi's dwindling fanatical base (they will only be enraged and radicalize even further), but because it will scare & mobilize wavering mainstream Israeli liberals.
EXCL: Keir Starmer under pressure from cabinet ministers to immediately recognise Palestinian statehood, as global outcry grows over Israel’s killing of starving civilians in Gaza. “We say that recognising Palestinian statehood is a really important symbol that you can only do…
Do I feel like a race traitor for having opposed Netanyahu's rampage from day one? Not at all - because not engaging in excessive violence against Gazans in response to Hamas's Oct 7 massacre would have been much, much better for Israel and its strategic standing, too.
Oh boy, the Daily Express is a right-wing, pro-Brexit British newspaper. If they feature this image, it shows how undeniable the evidence of mass hunger in Gaza is, and how far Netanyahu’s rampage has pushed even non-progressive Westerners away from supporting Israel.
Our powerful @Daily_Express front page for tomorrow. The brutal suffering in Gaza must end. The shocking image shows Muhammad Zakariya Ayyoub al-Matouq, one, who weighs the same as three-month old baby due to the humanitarian crisis following the continued blocking of basic aid…

Hard to overstate the impact US pharma companies have had on Europe's global trade numbers. The EU's global surplus more or less disappears now without Ireland's pharma surplus with the US
Actually, the First Industrial Revolution also led to a drop in median standards of living between 1800 and around 1850 when only the upper class benefited materially from it, while the rest was on average *initially* worse of than before (pauperization).
The Industrial Revolution improved everyone’s life, in the long run. But in the medium run, it caused the rise of communism, the murder of capitalists, and the advent of world war. Technological advance caused political chaos. Then again, would you prefer no electricity?
