This article is based on a few dozen testimonies of UA local authorities, volunteers, teachers persecuted under the Russian occupation. With @anneapplebaum and @TRPUkraine team, we explained not just why Ukrainians fight, but why the occupation can't last theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
American weapons are important, but Ukrainian drones have changed everything "What’s keeping Ukraine in the fight is not Russian mercy, or even solely American arms: It’s innovation" from @ngumenyuk, @TheAtlantic
I was asked too often about elections, polls, limitations. My answer was the same: The people will know when it’s time to protest.” And it’s indeed now. The protest isn’t similar to the ones before: it’s not about breaking smth but correcting what’s wrong theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
“Ukraine is the country of the rule of law”, - people are chanting. With lots of fun slogans like “Volodya, these are wrong cards”, there many conventional like “People are the source of power”. But it’s really a demo of very young Ukrainians who were kids in 2014
“Veto the law”, “One, United and Free Ukraine”, but still “Putin Dickhead” - the major slogans for the largest protest for many many years in defense of the independency of anti-corruption institutions
Two great people to follow and from whom to learn. @ngumenyuk and @yermolenko_v
⚡ This is a new kind of war. Drones have fundamentally changed its nature, and continue to do so every day. The #drones themselves are diverse: small and large, for observation and for attack, for bombing and for supply. ▪️ Nataliya Gumenyuk, a leading #Ukrainian journalist and…
Rough night in Kyiv. Fires, smoke. hundreds of drones shot down over the past 9 hours — and it’s still ongoing. Earlier we knew: Russia targeted the power grid; now it terrorizes civilians all night. All as U.S. aid to air defense is on pause.
Victoria Amelina wins the Orwell prize with her unfinished book. It was painful to read it for a different reason. The parts already finished were so strong, that it hurt to understand again how much more she could have done if Russia hadn't killed her theguardian.com/books/2025/jun…
What might be not obvious: after today’s special operations Ukrainians are safer, as more deadly weapon is destroyed. All these years the Kremlin attacks Ukraine with full capacity. The reasonable way to protect itself: destroy those capabilities to attack Ukrainian towns
STOP whatever it is you're doing, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and then Google "Ukraine" and "Spiderweb." History was made today. Ukrainian drones apparently struck four separate Russian strategic bomber bases, taking out (allegedly) 40 Russian strategic aircraft, to include…
Russia refused Ukraine’s offer of total or air ceasefire. Trump refused Ukraine’s request for air defenses and declined to sanction Russia for murderous missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine took out the planes used for these missile attacks. Simple.
This is a strategic setback for Russia. A significant part — maybe even the majority — of its airworthy strategic bomber fleet (part of the nuclear triad) appears to have been destroyed today.
Totally thrilled! The war crimes testimonies, recorded by our small team, are now told on the stage in London Arcola theater. I’ll speak after the play this Monday, June 2nd Tickets are still available arcolatheatre.com/whats-on/the-r…

I've embedded with pilots from 3 UA brigades in the East. A lot is said about drone production. This @Atlantic dispatch shows what this warfare looks like. It's not just about lesser dependence on US weapons. UAVs make the price tag feasible for the allies theatlantic.com/international/…
May 9th,former Soviet victory day, used to be an important till Moscow highjacked it to promote its modern fascism. Political sign-off to the Special Tribunal to prosecute Putin for the crime of aggression makes it again the day to remind “never again” reuters.com/world/europe/e…
I guess chestnuts blossoms season in Kyiv could become a traditional touristic attraction like Sakura Festivals in Japan. My 5 minute walk from the office to the closest subway station

The real leverage against Ukraine Trump has is not abandoning us, but not selling means for air defense. My latest for @guardian. Photo: teens observe rescue operation, waiting for the miracle —their friend is under the rubble. No, he didn’t survive theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The only critical 🇺🇸 weapon Europe can’t substitute fully are the shells for air defense, which only aim is to save civilian lives and infrastructure. Thus major US leverage over 🇺🇦 is destruction of the major cities. Todays attack:most missiles were shut down, still 18 ppl wounded

My latest episode of @DrillPod is out now, where this week Ukrainian journalist @ngumenyuk and I are discussing the fallout from the Zelenskyy-Trump Oval Office meeting, and what it means for Ukraine's future. Available now at the link below! x.com/DrillPod/statu…

It feels like Ukrainians are more shocked by this decision by Donald Trump. Banning students protests is the reddest of the red line in our nation psycho.

Trump wants any deal. For him accepting Russian terms seems the fastest. So he uses only leverage: military aid. Ukraine wants security guarantees. For Trump his word is enough since “Putin respects him.” Challenge that is disrespectiful. My latest theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
What the Trump administration seems to be most interested in is engineering a strategic rapprochement with Russia, not in ending the war in Ukraine. Ukraine is supposed to be just currency for that deal, which is why it causes so much anger when it shows agency of its own.
