What can DMT teach us about how we build worlds of experience? In this preprint we examined how DMT alters the structure of experience, focusing on how its immersive qualities leads into 'virtual' worlds inhabited by entities. Congrats @JWSanders_ for leading this colosal work
1/ How can micro-phenomenology advance our knowledge of the mind/brain under DMT, and address methodological shortcomings in psychedelic phenomenology more broadly? Announcing a new preprint from the DMT Research Group at @Imperial_PRG
Principles of Biological Autonomy by Francisco Varela, new ed Now that biology is catching up with Varela (eg agency is commonplace and teleology not scary) the book is more timely than ever. Here's my physical version! Commentary by Di Paolo and E. Thompson is very helpful.
new paper! insights are likely the most important marker of transformation on psychedelics:
Of greatest clinical relevance, 86% of studies found insight was associated with therapeutic benefit. Notably, the relationship was often stronger than mystical-type experiences, which have received more research attention.
Missed this before, but this looks like a solid study. Congrats @dpsyc42 @adeelrazi for such a comprehensive study design, very much where we should be headed with psychedelic neuroimaging
1/🚀New research on psychedelics, context & brain connectivity! We analysed the largest psychedelic neuroimaging dataset to date (N=62, fMRI+EEG). Key finding: Psilocybin aligns brain activity with context, linking neural dynamics to perception. A thread 🧵👇
new paper! intrinsically aligned superintelligence via “wise world models” using 4 axiomatic principles: mindfulness | emptiness | non-duality | boundless care d=0.96 effect on the AILuminate benchmark + a suite of contemplative implementations for LLMs & active inference 👇
Congrats to @lisaxiaolu for a successful PhD defence leading our extended DMT studies at @Imperial_PRG . Very proud to call her my first completed PhD student and in awe of how she managed to meticulously carry out some of the most extreme studies one could think of

Final version of the most accurate AI generated DMT hallucinations so far. We're not there in terms of accuracy, detail, or coherency yet, but i bet we will be in 2-5 years! The 2hr 4k version is here: youtu.be/2RhkcJyhg0E A guide on how I made this is in the replies.
It was a pleasure to be interviewed by Steve on DMT, psychedelic research, consciousness and beliefs
@neurodelia Timmerman leads the DMT Research Group at Imperial College, where he’s discovered that a single psychedelic experience can transform a person’s belief system, often turning materialists into panpsychists. Here's my latest episode of Luminous. ttbook.org/show/luminous-…
Chris Timmermann (@neurodelia), psychedelic and consciousness researcher, will be teaching in Australia's first university-accredited course on Psychedelic Science. 📢 ENROL NOW! Starts now ➡️ monash.edu/psychedelic-sc… #PsychedelicEducation #MonashUniversity
Benny Shanon, one of the pioneers of modern psychedelic research, has recently passed away. His book Antipodes of the Mind remains one of the most influential and beautiful books I have read. May his contributions carry forward in our work and explorations of consciousness
