Today marks the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, signed by President Lyndon Johnson on July 2. This landmark legislation prohibited discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or national origin. It was the most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction.

This afternoon, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction received communication from the U.S. Department of Education that previously frozen federal funding will be released beginning the week of July 28. See my statement below.
