This *and* the language of “food apartheid” is often used to highlight that unlike deserts, natural phenomena, regions where intentional starving and deprivation are being used as weapons subject people to a form of apartheid related to nourishment. It is structural violence.
Black folks in the U.S. should be terrified by starvation as a weapon of war if only because current sanctions on our communities, otherwise known as food deserts, can easily become a blockade given our lack of food sovereignty. P@lest!ne is prologue.
