So honored to sit down with @NicoleShanahan for this discussion. Dreaming of a future in medicine where the patient is the focus, common sense and ethics are front and center, and bias is minimized was a nice break from the daily reality of the medical industrial complex.
“You’re not worthy of a hospital bed if you didn’t choose to get a needle in your arm” @molsjames. That was the cruel mantra pushed by the Medical Industrial Complex—one that weaponized fear and turned Americans against each other. It wasn’t public health. It was coercion.
I’m now convinced Peter Hotez is the dumbest doctor on the planet. Or evil. Probably both.
WATCH: Peter Hotez tells woman her repeated COVID infections are basically her fault for skipping boosters. WOMAN: “I’m getting COVID often. I took Paxlovid the third time, and then a few weeks later I got it again. COVID was really bad on me.” HOTEZ: “After you had your first…

Someday we will learn that healthcare is not free. Insurance is not a black AMEX card with no limit. Expect to pay out-of-pocket for most everything, regardless.
My daughter recently had an ear infection. Took her to the doctor, who prescribed an antibiotic. That doctor visit cost $244. My insurance covered $60, so we owe $184 out of pocket. I pay $556/month for family health insurance. Something seems broken.
Hospitals are supposed to help communities. In exchange they are exempt from paying taxes. Instead, they actually harm those communities.
Stop putting your health in the hands of people chasing 8-figure profit margins and 7-figure bonuses
Did you realize that insurance companies are the ones who decide which treatments they'll pay for, essentially gating whether patients can receive them? It isn't based on what's truly best for the patient—it's purely about what the insurance will cover.

Doc Pete needs to be TX Governor. We need a Leader who won’t be bought. 🇺🇸
If you want doctors who will take care of you, you need to start supporting them now. Many clinics are getting swallowed by corporations building monopolies--that require you to see their doctors to get to their resources. If you're waiting 'until you need us', it may be too…
These liars are all the same. Accuse others of what you did. We know, bubs.
After 32 years at the National Institutes of Health, including as director, Dr Francis Collins retired this year. “It became untenable,” he says. “Restrictions were placed on the research we were trying to do… Staff were being fired with no justification… We were also muzzled.”
Doc is running for Texas Governor. @GregAbbott_TX is destroying Texas and America
Yes. Unlike some 'doctors' on twitter, I actually did all the work to earn it.

Like it or not, marketing genius

I remember when we had unit clerks. They were amazing. They knew how to get things done. Everyone appreciated them. Those were the days!
In the 20 years I worked at the hospital based system, the transition to EHR led to the strong sense that "the doctor is in the system anyway. They can just place that order" (or edit/correct/update). They did away with "verbal orders"; doctors could (and should!) just place…
The average chart we get is now over 100 pages--sometime over 500 pages. There are usually less than 20 key pages of information buried in nonsense gibberish Complete. Waste. of. Time.
The healthcare system is not becoming more sophisticated. Doctor labor is being leveraged worse. Doctors are stuck clicking through meaningless alerts and having to slog through slow logins to change the location of a CT scan because nurses can't edit orders, apparently.
