Maxim Molodtsov
@molodtsovlab
Biophysicist @TheCrick and @UCL and father or two boys. We are studying how molecules work together to organise DNA and cell cytoskeleton.
There are lots of microtubules in the mitotic spindle. @leeyachu in the our lab discovered that interpolar microtubules generate forces that can produce bipolar spindle organization! Read here: nature.com/articles/s4146…
We have temporary fully funded postdoc or LRS position to join our lab @TheCrick working jointly with @UCL_IPLS to work on developing tools for measuring forces that position mitotic spindles and chromosomes. More info here: bit.ly/44jttuI. E-mail Maxim to discus.
Do your PhD with us @TheCrick and @UCL_IPLS starting October 2025. Apply here: ucl.ac.uk/epsrc-doctoral…
PhD position in our lab at the Francis Crick Institute and UCL starting 2025. Please e-mail me about how to apply: profiles.ucl.ac.uk/70849-maxim-mo… If you are not applying, please repost!
Next time somebody wants to make coffee in the lab, why not use sonicator? theguardian.com/food/article/2…
London has the most beautiful skies. This one is very dramatic!

We have fantastic fully funded postdoctoral position to work on SMC – DNA interaction @TheCrick. Please get in touch and apply via @UCL: bit.ly/3UY742N
Very many thanks to @JeffTiLab for the invitation to speak at @hkusbms. Really enjoyed all discussions. Food was also delicious. Looking forward going back to Hong Kong sometime again!
Fun times teaching computational cell biology today. It turned out most students didn’t know neither cell nor biology. I had to explain chemical kinetics, cytoskeleton and cell division, all from scratch and all in approximately half an hour. Personal record!
Warmest congratulations to Martina for finishing her PhD! It has been fantastic and extremely successful journey. Great to have you in the lab!

Congrats to @AbhinavKongari, who won the idea to innovation grant @TheCrick which will allow him to stay after finishing his PhD and make new amazing tools for measuring mechanical forces at sub cellular level!
Very happy about this paper coming out of our lab, which shows how cohesin/DNA interaction is controlled by mechanical force. Congratulations to Martina and the whole team!
One ring to rule them all – Excited to share that our article, born out of a lab collaboration at @thecrick, is online today @NatureSMB! nature.com/articles/s4159… We shed light on how cohesin, a ring-shaped complex, holds together chromosomes @LastEgor @molodtsovlab (1/6).

These guys came to our group retreat seminar, which we did in this wonderful house in Peak District National Park. Thank you, everyone in the group, for the great two days!

Please consider nominating a junior PI colleague (under 40 years of age) to the 2024 Michele Auger Award from Biophysical Reviews before the deadline of October 31st (2023): rdcu.be/dnANC
Very happy to become a member of the British Biophysical Society Committee (@BritBiophysSoc). Many thanks to @olwynbyron, @tblumens and others!
Time to say goodbye, with all amazing participants. We will be back in 2025! Thank you to all the sponsors @EMBO @Co_Biologists @CRGenomica @FlatironCCB @SEMC_NYSBC #divide2023
It was great seeing so many friends and colleagues @DivIDE_2023
Tasty laboratory lunch in a Georgian restaurant. We had to ask for a protocol how to eat these…

Regular fluorescent proteins like GFP can be controlled by magnetics fields...
We discovered a surprisingly easy way to control the brightness of fluorescent proteins via magnetic fields: andrewgyork.github.io/gfp_magnetoflu… This raises fascinating scientific questions about the mechanism, and tantalizing technological opportunities for bioengineering.
