Author, poet, & freelance writer + snacks New book: The Me List out now! Debut novel: The Things We Keep http://juleebalko.com
Hi book lovers, book readers, and maybe people who like to sniff books. I’m pinning this graphic so you can learn more about my books! My newest book The Me List is available on Kindle Unlimited and also has an audiobook.

Just want to thank the little brown dog who was shoving his head out the car window with such glee that it reminded me there is always joy in the world because we have dogs.
Going for my mammogram today. Why am I telling you? Because I wrote my first book (The Things We Keep) after my mother died of breast cancer, and if this post inspires one person to make an appointment, it's worth it!
Guess which book just hit 400 reviews on Goodreads? Ok, the answer is mine!!!! That’s 400 readers that aren’t my mom. (Mainly cause my mom is no longer alive.) I’m so proud of this little book about friendship and judgment that inspires readers to make a list!

New #Goodreads #review just dropped!! #Shoutout to @misplacedcomma2 for this wonderful book, and to @joanne_paulson for the recommendation!! #WritingCommunity #BooksWorthReading goodreads.com/review/show/77…
I've never been a surgeon. But sometimes editing a scene in my new book feels so delicate that I know I would have been an absolute sh!t surgeon. Sorry about your knee cap, I had to delete the whole thing to make it work.
Slug selfie! I take pictures of slugs whenever I see them on the trail because I have a friend who loves them. That’s the cool thing about friendship, you never walk alone when you carry people in your heart.

It’s a give it your all kind of Friday. And my all is roughly 12.6%.
Client: big cup of coffee Me: yep, late night Client: you go out anywhere fun? Me: laughs <awkwardness> Me: oh you were serious. No, I stayed up late reading.
I’m not asking for much. I just want readers to fall in love with my books so I can continue to pour my heart and soul into every page. It’d be cool if I could also have fresh muffins and a pet pig too.
And just like that, the day changes. Because yes folks!!!! My hold came in at the library.
Went out last night and someone asked me what I read lately. After describing the seventh book, I realized I was supposed to stop talking after one. Writers should come with a tee-shirt: don’t ask about books if you don’t want to hear A LOT about books.
I’m so tired today I say to my word doc. It does not reply & so I write. I just don’t feel like writing when life feels difficult. The word doc waits & so I write. Maybe coffee will help? The word doc silently agrees. I write more. And now here I am sitting with progress.
I’m an adult. Until I hear the ice cream truck.
I'm such a good wife. I washed my husband's wallet. Oops.
Sometimes I have big thoughts as an author that break my heart open. But often I have tiny every day thoughts that I need to capture when I’m out and about. Which is why I needed this small gold notebook. Isn’t it pretty?

Had coffee with a sweet friend this morning.

Fridays are for fun and giving the middle finger to your computer. I think that’s how the saying goes.

Drinking coffee. Eating radishes. Like the weird little writer I am.
Everything is cheaper at Trader Joe’s! Look at this free cat toy.

My teen finally said the words I’ve been waiting to hear!! “You want to go to the library?”
