Without consulting Ukrainians or friends of Ukraine, President Zelenskyy hastily signed into law measures to subordinate anti-corruption agencies to political control. Stretching credulity, Zelenskyy now says he wants to strengthen the independence of NABU and SAPO.

With unusual haste, President Zelenskyy signed the bill into law to subordinate anti-corruption agencies to political control. The suddenness of this move against Ukrainian civil society has an ominous Yanukovych vibe to it.

The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and the European Council are warning the Ukrainian government that subordinating anti-corruption agencies to a political appointee jeopardizes Ukraine's integration in the global economic community and in the EU.
