New Paper Alert! 🚨 Our latest modeling study finds canopy temperature is likely an important omission in interpreting microwave vegetation optical depth. 🌿📡 #VOD #Ecology #MicrowaveRemoteSensing [Link to the paper rb.gy/j6lx2q]
We are running our drought session again at #AGU24. Fellow fans of water and heat stress, please consider submitting! @JuliaKGreen1 @merneovine @Dendrogobbler agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/prel…
🌊 Join us! 🌿 Postdoc (remote option) & Ph.D. positions available in our USGS-funded eco-hydrology project. Boost water budget predictions across the US! 🚀 Apply: [bit.ly/48iTUSv] Please share with those who might be interested. Thanks! 🙌 #ResearchJobs #PhD #Postdoc
Are you studying vegetation’s impact on our water and climate? Our @theAGU session agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/preli… is a great place for you, convened by myself, Madeleine Pascolini-Campbell, AJ Purdy, & @alkalifly, & with invited speakers @Novick_Lab and Corey S. Lesk.

Going to #AGU22 and wondering where the #soils and #CriticalZone sessions are? Come take a look at the summary by the Soil&CZ Tech Committee! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d… We tagged the sessions to help you plan your days! Did we miss something? Add it!
shout out to the Soil Processes and Critical Zone subcommittee for the inspiration.

Alex Konings at Stanford is looking for a postdoc on microwave remote sensing of plants and asked to share on her behalf. See here: koningslab.stanford.edu/postdoc-opport…. I can personally attest that she is a fantastic thinker, highly creative, and great person all around. Please retweet!
As a first-gen student, I often ask myself how I can justify an academia pitch to other first-gen students during outreach and recruitment. Telling my parents that I'd be working with a grad salary was a HUGE concern for them. I was met with, "Are you serious right now?" (1/4)
"If UC doesn't course correct and provide Academic Workers with wages that match the cost of living, they'll fail to recruit and retain a diverse workforce of top scholars. But there are 48,000 of us who are not going to let that happen." -Vanessa Goss, SR #UAWonStrike #FairUCNow
A study in @NatureClimate shows drought-driven evapotranspiration increases are widespread and depend on the magnitude of precipitation and total water shortage anomalies. go.nature.com/3DlYhOj
Drought is complex. Plants are important. Soil processes are hard to model accurately. Good messages all around. Great study nature.com/articles/s4155…
Does evapotranspiration increase or decrease during droughts? The answer is not straightforward! We found that evapotranspiration increases in 44% of drought months. Models underestimate this by a half. Plant and soil structure are the causes. Read here rdcu.be/cYpAV

Join us on Tuesday, October 11th at 3pm for a seminar with Prof. Alexandra Konings titled "Microwave remote sensing of plant water stress"! This is a hybrid event - follow the link for more details on how to attend: cse.umn.edu/safl/events/mi…
One year ago, I launched this free textbook probability4datascience.com Today, the book has been downloaded by >35,000 students from >500 universities. If each book costs $100, we have saved families $3.5M. Boiler up @LifeAtPurdue #DataScience #MachineLearning
Last chapter published yesterday in ERL @IOPscience! doi.org/10.1088/1748-9…. We modeled climate change impacts to peat swamps in SE Asia by applying deep learning to🛰️soil moisture. Drier climate portends drier soils and higher fire risk 🫥
The @BiomedGps Elevator Pitch Competition is Thurs at 5 pm PT Come support Zhuoya He as she and 11 other PhD students share their passion for science and effective ways to engage scientists, non-scientists, community members, and industry professionals! buff.ly/363TtgQ
