I wrote about the lack of administrative support for the liberal arts in @nytimes. The standard story we hear is that students don't want it. But a darker reality is that even when it wins big with students and donors it loses with those in power. nytimes.com/2025/07/17/opi…
I want to give a quick shout-out to @MedievalUpdates, which has alerted me to so many useful titles that I might never have encountered otherwise (and will be in the "Acknowledgements" of my next book, as a thanks.) Spread the word!

Even if I live to be 120 years old, I will never understand why academic leaders make the bad decisions they sometimes make. This one takes the cake. After the University of Tulsa succeeded in recruiting the excellent Jennifer Frey to lead and build its new Honors College, and…
Two years ago, I moved to Tulsa to become the inaugural dean of a new honors college. Then President @bradrcarson convinced me to leave my endowed position at Carolina to build the university’s sixth college. I am so proud of all we accomplished over the last two years 🧵(1/21)
I spent four great years here while getting my PhD--my home away from home! Any books I couldn't find in the stacks were usually in my adviser's office there. :) @UDaily @UDelaware udel.edu/udaily/2025/ju…

I'm not an art historian, but I'm trying my hand at it today with Procaccini’s 1620 "Constantine Receiving the Instruments of Christ’s Passion."

A useful read. My own take is that the second and third-order effects of abolishing the term would be significant and self-defeating.
Here's an interesting little article. Since the titular question wouldn't be posed unless the answer was going to be "yes" in some regard, let's examine it more closely...
