I’m proud to have contributed to the #LitInColour research alongside @veldaelliott, @lspeaks2020 and @RChantiluke. Writers of colour remain underrepresented in our schools. Full report here: penguin.co.uk/content/dam/pr…

If you are in a school in England you can access the 'Reading Ambition for All' training delivered by your local English Hub. I was delighted to be involved in developing this with @WandleEnglish and I'm so pleased that it covers teaching children with a complex profile of needs.
It was wonderful to work with @TeresaCremin yesterday to lead the @OpenUni_RfP Schools Programme conference day at @ChestertonSch The day was focussed on building a rich reading culture and we specifically explored Social Reading Environments and Informal Book Talk.

Brilliant to hear @frankcottrell_b profiling the benefits of reading aloud and shared reading as he guest edits @BBCRadio4’s today show 📚

The best book post! 📚 I can’t wait to read this important book from @rapclassroom and @ksandsoconnor “If you truly believe in the power of children’s literature & the right of every child to feel equal & valued in society, please read every single word” - Patrice Lawrence

It was brilliant to meet @CMcKinnellMP, Minister for School Standards, and @MarshadeCordova to share the work we do at @WandleEnglish and @ChestertonSch to support Reading for Pleasure and early reading in schools in our region.
Excellent foundations in reading are crucial to our mission to ensure every child has the best life chances. It was great visiting @ChestertonSch to further understand the role of English Hubs in providing school-to-school support for reading.📖
If a school understands the importance of reading for pleasure and enjoyment, it doesn't mean that they don't also understand the importance of phonics, fluency, comprehension and all the other essential aspects of reading. They're not mutually exclusive.
Join us on Tuesday 12th November for our next Research into Practice webinar. Alice Reedy @Reedyreading will share findings from her research on Reading for Pleasure and explore how we can build rich reading cultures in our classrooms. wandleenglishhub.org.uk/training-cpd
Teachers can have a huge impact on children’s reading enjoyment. Thank you to Ly and Dan from the @Booktrust team for sharing findings and implications from their important research at our @WandleEnglish Research into Practice webinar.

Just over a week to go until this fully-funded @WandleEnglish webinar with @Booktrust. Join us on 24th Oct to hear about their latest research on children’s reading enjoyment and how we can build rich reading cultures in our classrooms. 🎟️Book here: wandleenglishhub.org.uk/training-cpd

100 books by authors of colour wp.penguin.co.uk/wp-content/upl… Well worth a visit @mattheweduk @benniekara @rachelayres1979 @Team_English1 @BarbaraBleiman Worth sharing too!
📚Reading aloud non-fiction matters. Really interesting study from @DrClarenceGreen and Kathleen Keogh which found that reading aloud informational and narrative picture books provides exposure to more lexical diversity, density and complex morphology, than narratives alone.

Hear more about this important research by signing up to our fully-funded webinar on 24th October, led by the @Booktrust research team wandleenglishhub.org.uk/training-cpd
📢 NEW: Today we're publishing our research exploring how children's enjoyment of reading declines during primary school. And Waterstones @UKLaureate @frankcottrell_b says the findings concern him "greatly". Find out more 👇 booktrust.org.uk/news-and-featu…
