A lot has happened at the L.A. Times, some of it taking the focus away from our excellent journalism. If you want to know what's really going on, I'd suggest you keep an eye on the Guild Eagle. First issue written by me: latguild.com/news/2025/2/11…
A line cook who no longer leaves her home in Santa Ana except for work. A dishwasher in San Gabriel Valley who confessed to his boss he was in the country without legal status and asked for help. @theCindyCarcamo writes on plight of restaurant workers: latimes.com/food/story/202…
Exciting News: Former Sen. @Steve_Glazer and @mattdpearce join us to help advance meaningful local news legislation. With their leadership and other key additions to our team, we’re poised to make real progress for local journalism. Learn More: rebuildlocalnews.org/rebuild-local-…
LA Times owner says journalism and his paper’s editorial pages have been too partisan. He tweeted 18 times in a row last week to boost RFK Jr., even as a writer says the paper altered his op-ed to drop all criticism of the HHS nominee. My NPR story: npr.org/2025/02/03/nx-…
NEW from me: I talked to @mattdpearce, @gaufre, @hamiltonnolan, and others to make sense of what impact Trump's shakeups to the National Labor Relations Board will have on the news industry. In short: longer strikes and more of them. niemanlab.org/2025/01/what-w…

An FAA employee I know confirms agency already lacks sufficient air traffic controllers. The so-called “buyouts” and other attacks on federal employees won’t help. Remember that fact when the flight delays (crashes?) commence and Trumpers start falsely blaming DEI or Biden.
hi gang this will be the final post from me (@riehle_deal). thanks for everything 🤙
really good episode! Thanks @mattdpearce for sharing policy solutions and what consumers can do to support media.
On the latest episode of the podcast, @mattdpearce spoke to @quepaso_daniel about how the recent L.A. wildfires highlighted the importance of local journalism. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mat…
As my comrade and colleague @mattdpearce put it: "There is a single iron law of using the internet in 2025: You have to get more out of a platform than the platform gets out of you. What’s human has to win, and everything else is downstream." open.substack.com/pub/mattdpearc…

"I don't raise this subject idly: Once we defeat these wildfires, California lawmakers have a unique opportunity to study what went wrong with the chaotic information environment in Los Angeles when people’s lives and homes were on the line." mattdpearce.substack.com/p/california-j…
Today's front page features a story I wrote w/ @brittny_mejia + @MelissaGomez004 about Altadena - my beloved hometown - and @RaineyTime's story about his childhood home. For days, @latimes journalists have disperesed across the region to cover communities they know and love.

I'm barely on X anymore and was dismayed when I opened the app last night to find it utterly awash in conspiracy theories. Angelenos are lucky to have a lot of good media outlets run by professionals who are trained to separate fact from rumor. Support local journalism.
In this crisis, I'm struck by how much better every L.A. media outlet -- right populists KFI, left-liberal KCRW and KPCC, the L.A, Times, KTLA, KCAL and more -- are performing than X, save for very high information consumers who can most easily separate the idiocy from the gems.
New: Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline and empty when fire began this week. Former DWP chief told me this reservoir would have helped extend water pressure in Palisades, but only for a time. DWP said it’s examining impact. More details here >>> latimes.com/california/sto…
