I made an app this past weekend using a $30 android smartphone to send me notifications when my dryer was done drying. They sell these phones at a loss thinking you’re gonna buy a data plan, don’t do that. Instead use for DIY projects in place of a raspberry pi or esp32.
it’s crazy actually how cheap they are: $30 at Walmart. picked a few up. got some projects in mind using it as an IoT device for home automation stuff. basically a raspberry pi replacement that comes with a screen, cameras, microphone, etc.
recently explored implementing a poor man’s GPIO on a $30 android smartphone using the headphone jack. a raspberry pi is better in most cases, but in a pinch you can use a cheap phone with a simple $3 circuit to control things programmatically.

the biggest bottleneck to us having useful robots is lack of training data. Amplify makes it so the billions of hours of unlabeled Youtube videos that already exist can now be used to train robot control policies. huge capability unlock. Great work Jeremy and team!
Robotics data is expensive and slow to collect. Robotics labs and companies spend months just to collect around 10k hours of demonstration data, all while that much video is uploaded to YouTube every 20 minutes. However, none of this video data contains action labels. How can we…
on-the-fly ui is the future
Here's how Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite writes the code for a UI and its contents based solely on the context of what appears in the previous screen - all in the time it takes to click a button. 💻 ↓
