Grateful to talk to @johnkruzel about the current moment. "This cannot be stressed enough - up until this point we have not, in modern times, had to wonder whether a presidential administration would comply with a court order” said Duke Prof. Marin Levy. reuters.com/world/us/with-…
I will always have two things to remember Justice Souter by: a very kind letter he wrote to me, recommending Maitland's History of English Law, and this map, which used to hang in his office at the Court and now hangs in mine. May his memory be for a blessing.
BREAKING: Retired Associate Justice David Souter died yesterday at his home in New Hampshire. He was 85. Souter served 19 years on the court from 1990 to 2009.
The statements of the Justices following the death of a colleague say so much about the colleague, but also about the author. Justice Souter’s statement about Justice Stevens in 2019 is a single, remarkable sentence: “He was the soul of principle and an irreplaceable friend.”
Just remembering Justice Souter’s statement upon the death of RBG: “Ruth Ginsburg was one of those members of the Court who achieved greatness before she became a great Justice. I loved her to pieces.” *loved her to pieces* ♥️

“I feel like people are playing Russian roulette with our lives,” said Judge Esther Salas of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, whose 20-year-old son was shot and killed at her home in 2020 by a self-described “anti-feminist” lawyer. nytimes.com/2025/03/19/us/…

“I’ve never seen judges as uneasy as they are now,” said John Jones III, a former U.S. district judge. These threats against the judiciary are disgraceful -- and more voices need to be calling them out. reuters.com/world/us/judge…
