Memory rehearsal in wakefulness rapidly engenders an enduring engram in posterior parietal cortex! Very excited to share our latest on imaging microstructural plasticity in humans, published today in @sciencemagazine! Great work, Svenja Brodt! science.sciencemag.org/content/362/64…
What a treat to start the new year with a new paper from the lab, with @azayhara ! @hongyu_chang and Wenbo Tang found that pupil dynamics in naturally sleeping mice uncover a microstructure of sleep that organizes different types of memory replay: nature.com/articles/s4158…
#BrAInWorlds is pleased to announce the lecture by Yael Niv @yael_niv on latent cause inference and mental health. You are cordially invited to join the Freiburg neuroscience community on December 18th at 2 PM (German time) via Zoom: Meeting-ID: 927 8790 0135, Code: YaelNiv
Excited to share our new results! We (huge team effort led by post-doc extraordinaire @SLLesuis) examined the effects of acute stress on threat memory generalization and engram ensemble architecture. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Excited to share our review, w. @ShanyGrossman (shared 1st!) and @nico_schuck where we discuss representational spaces in OFC/vmPFC and in deep RL models, featuring values, states and much more! cell.com/trends/neurosc…. Fresh from the (virtual) print now in @TrendsNeuro , 1/4
NSF makes you say who you got conflicts (coauthored) with. We (really just Jordan Matelsky @j6m8 ) just built you a tool for that. Literally one click (on top of revealing your name): bib.experiments.kordinglab.com/nsf-coa - one of the most useful tools the lab ever built.
Excited to announce that this work has now been published in @PNASNews pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… We propose a computational account of how humans decompose complex dynamical experiences into subprocesses and reuse these in an abstract, compositional manner in novel situations.
As promised, here’s the summary thread🧵: The study presented in this preprint investigates how humans decompose dynamical subprocesses and leverage the abstracted subprocesses for compositional reuse of experience in new situations. 1/n
Prolonged exertion of self-control causes increased sleep-like frontal brain activity and changes in aggressivity and punishment | PNAS pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
🌟 Cai Lab @Nature paper alert! In new work led by @mysteriousjoe_, we find that rest periods after learning not only stabilize new memories BUT ALSO integrate new memories with older ones from days past! (1/9) Read it here: nature.com/articles/s4158…
Super interesting work on REM sleep and its role in neural differentiation by Elizabeth McDevitt! One step closer to understanding what still is a huge enigma in sleep research. 🧠 👀💤

This is finally out today in @PLOSCompBiol - find the final updated and improved version here: journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a… with @nico_schuck @summerfieldlab @SaxeLab @PMuhleKarbe and twitterless Léo
New Preprint! We often learn gradually, but sometimes things occur to us in a flash, aka aha-moment. Why? We explored the comp. mechanisms of spontaneous periods of fast learning & show they arise even in simple NNs. arxiv.org/abs/2302.11351
We're excited to finally share our review of fMRI hyperactivity in the Alzheimer’s disease pathological cascade, the result of a fun collaboration with @CorriveauNick, @fislarissa, Eoin Molloy, & @anne_maass Now out in @braincomms - summary thread below! academic.oup.com/braincomms/adv…
#GazeReinstatement & #NeuralReactivation may be linked through a common process that reinstates past experiences during #MemoryRetrieval! doi.org/10.1101/2024.1… Check out our #Preprint that integrates #EyeTracking into the Sherlock #fMRI Dataset (Postdoc work w/@Chris_I_Baker)!

Are different sleep stages only defined by neural oscillations? Our new work led by @JannaLendner now out in JNeuro @SfNJournals demonstrates that several aperiodic (intrinsic) timescales shape the iEEG power spectrum during sleep: jneurosci.org/content/44/42/… (1/7)
We are delighted to share that our new paper published today in @NeuroCellPress! We show that the persistent activity of single neurons during working memory (WM) maintenance predicts long-term memory (LTM) formation in the human hippocampus. 👇cell.com/neuron/fulltex…
Already the last day of SFN tomorrow - with many of us presenting in the very last session in the afternoon. Please come visit us at below posters (Posters V8-V16 & 1 Talk) to hear about our latest discoveries in memory and imagination. #SfN2024 @CedarsSinai @CaltechN
Wow. Hopfield model and Boltzmann machine.
BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”
The @IMaC_Lab is presenting new findings on rapid plasticity in the human brain 🧠⚡️ at #SfN24! Want to learn more on how we decode which movies people have watched from changes in brain microstructure? And how fast such changes occur? Come visit our posters on on Tuesday 8-12!
Looking forward to meet everybody and enjoy the science once again this #SfN24 ! The lab is presenting several posters, most of them on Sunday afternoon. Stop by to chat, check out what we have been up to this year and meet our amazing students and postdocs 🤩
Come this afternoon to our posters to see how pupil dynamics organize memory replay, how the hipp balances reactivation and homeostasis, how hipp-cortical interactions evolve during learning, and the neural mechanisms of foraging and territory formation in natural enviroments
