Went to a Norman church in Elkstone, Gloucestershire today. In fact, I walked. Got tangled in hedgerows. Lost on rights of way rarely trodden. Hot. Sticky. Had a bizarre interaction with a private chauffeur (Cotswolds country isn’t it…). Had a pint of cider. Excellent:

Malmesbury Abbey. Resting place of Athelstan - Arguably the first King of England (though where his exact remains are is lost to history). Stunning 12th century carving. Stirring stuff:




The stories we tell are important. Are they all we have when all is said and done?
