Carrying cedar-scented memories of ancient peaks while wandering through the cities of tomorrow. Curious about all things sacred and profane. 🇱🇧🧉
With the renewed assault on Suwayda today by Bedouin tribesmen and jihadist militias, the clock is ticking rapidly toward the possible collapse of the Druze militias under overwhelming pressure, and the looming threat of a massacre of 10,000s of Druze civilians. The siege has…

These two photos I'm sharing, which initially circulated online as evidence of massacred Bedouin civilians, have been traced to the videos also attached now confirming the victims were in fact Druze civilians, who were hauled into a main square in Suwayda and executed. Hosam…
One of many Druze families from over 30 villages in the Suwayda countryside who fled their homes after atrocities were committed in their communities, and after their homes and farms were pillaged and burned. This particular family sought shelter in their vehicle, moving from…

Druze militias pushed Christians out of Swayda southern Syria.
Graphic thread. And shame on the Arabs who deny this and a media ecosystem that has never learned to stop stoking sectarianism and fear. If this region can't be safe for people from all sects and backgrounds, then it's not worth saving. Sunni, Druze, Kurds, Christians - everyone.
Thanks for sharing and documenting these atrocities, Rama. Unfortunately, many Druze like myself feel compelled to highlight the suffering of Druze victims, not out of insensitivity toward the Bedouin victims, who have also endured horrific atrocities in Suwayda, but because the…
Syrian government soldiers, in official uniform : “Are you Druze?” He replies: “I’m Syrian.” The Islamist soldiers snap: “Don’t say Syrian. Are you Druze or not? It says Druze on your ID.” The terrified man: “Yes, I’m Druze, my brother.” “Allahu Akbar” — then shoot him dead
Another Christian brutally killed by the Islamist forces of the Syrian regime in Suwayda. As electricity returns, horrifying videos are emerging—gruesome crimes identical to ISIS atrocities. At least 25 Christians and hundreds of Druze massacred.
Thanks for sharing and documenting these atrocities, Rama. Unfortunately, many Druze like myself feel compelled to highlight the suffering of Druze victims, not out of insensitivity toward the Bedouin victims, who have also endured horrific atrocities in Suwayda, but because the…
🧵 Thread: The Horrific Massacre in Suwayda by Governmental Syrian Forces and pro-government tribesmen (Videos of the atrocities): The atrocities committed by the Syrian general security forces and factions under the Syrian Ministry of Defense, compounded by attacks from…
Tragically, we are likely to discover many more Druze civilians summarily executed in their homes across Suwayda city and its surrounding villages in the coming days. الله يرحمه
With a broken heart, we say goodbye to my cousin, Dr. Firas Abu Latif, a kind and brilliant Syrian-French academic. He was found murdered and burned in his home in As-Suwayda, after a violent raid by forces from the “Ministry of Defense”and “General Security Directorate 1-2 #syria
BREAKING - Killings of Alawites in March, "though widespread, were not organized" , spokesperson for Syrian investigative committee says, citing final report. Found most killings driven by revenge, not ideological reasons. Committee able to identify 1,426 dead, most…
There is undoubtedly an information war, but that is not what is primarily to blame. We cannot minimise either the sectarian killing of Druze nor the forced expulsion of Bedouins. Please, whatever you do and however you do it, use your platform to hasten de-escalation.
Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa accused four unnamed states of fueling sectarianism in Syria via fake news and social media. Blaming foreign-backed groups for escalating Suwayda crisis and warned against establishing “sectarian cantons,” stressing unity and reconciliation.
Cindy and I are heartbroken by the death of Hosam Saraya. Hosam was an Oklahoman and member of the Druze community who was tragically executed alongside other members of his family in Syria. We are praying for his family, friends, and the entire community as they grieve this…
There is a clear collective effort to minimize the horrific massacres that have been committed against Druze-Syrians. and the wave of online bullying and misinformation only makes that effort all the more obvious. Both the State, and those aiding in framing the events in Suwayda…

It wasn’t Hijri who stopped them from entering — it was the entire population of Sweida, who didn’t want to see government ministers, responsible for massacring them, coming to take selfies while distributing humanitarian aid
The Syrian Minister of Health and the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor were part of the convoy that Hikmat al-Hijri prevented from entering to suwayda, simply because they were representatives of the Syrian government. These patriotic officials risked their lives to reach…
Tala Al-Choufi, 14 ans. Rest In Peace
I’ve deleted a couple of recent posts advocating for political solutions for Suwayda. I was a bit carried away by grief and foreboding. My grandmother lost both her aunt and, as it now appears, over 20 distant relatives. We’re also struggling to stay in contact with our…
Druze icon Asmahan (1912–1944), originally from Suwayda Despite dying at a very young age, she is widely recognised as one of the greatest divas in the history of Arabic music, alongside Umm Kulthum, Fairuz, and Sabah
