(1/8) Our cohort profile of the Mental Health online Survey in more than 86,000 Estonian Biobank participants is now out in @IntJEpidemiol! 🎉🧬🧠 We are truly grateful to all participants and the EstBB team for making this study happen 🙏💙 Link: doi.org/10.1093/ije/dy… A thread
Very glad to see the expansion of our Estonian delegation of behavioral genetics researchers from the usual 2 (me and @KailiRimfeld ) to whopping 7 at #BGA2024 this year! Lots of great science using @ESTbiobank data was presented 📊🧬🧠 I hope this trend will continue! 📈

🎉 Excited to share that our latest paper is now published! We investigated genetic factors linked to antidepressant side effects in 13,000 individuals from the @ESTbiobank, leveraging data from questionnaires and clinical notes using NLP. shorturl.at/3tAkg
🧬🧠Recent research @ESTbiobank @genomicstartu revealed that high genetic liability to #ADHD raises risks for 80 health conditions like #COPD (+70%), #obesity (+60%) & type 2 diabetes #T2D (+45%) - even without an ADHD diagnosis. Better screening & awareness for adults is needed!
We are delighted to contribute with Estonian Biobank data to this massive collaboration 🎉 So glad to see this work published!
1/n Our multi-ancestry #GWAS meta-analysis of major depression is now published in @CellCellPress. cell.com/cell/fulltext/… A thread 🧵:
We just published the largest study on sex-stratified mortality estimates in schizophrenia. 🧵1/10
Fascinating paper on the genetics of people with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
Happy to contribute to this project dissecting the genetic overlap bw mental disorders and blood metabolites! 🎉
New preprint! Strong genetic overlap between severe mental disorders and blood metabolic markers. Fascinating patterns: opposite effect directions of the markers on major depression versus bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. tinyurl.com/metaboPsych. #metabolicpsychiatry
It is my great pleasure to host a fantastic line-up of speakers for the Psychiatric Genomics session at the GeneForum conference in Tartu this year geneforum.ee. There are still a few days left to register! @WrayNaomi @KMusliner @PeyrotWouter
"While much of Europe is obsessing over this year’s European Football Championships, many Estonians — whose team didn’t qualify — are absorbed in their own genomes." And they have pretty awesome genomes, I must say! Read the full story by @ewencallaway: nature.com/articles/d4158…
The PGC MDD group (pictured at #WCPG2023 in Montreal) includes 200+ scientists from >15-20 countries 🌐 🧬 Our members range from distinguished faculty to junior investigators across epidemiology, statistical genetics, and clinical psychiatry/psychology. pgc.unc.edu/for-researcher…
#ADHD also genetically overlaps with medical conditions. This study identified 80 medical conditions associated with an ADHD-polygenic score 🧬🩺 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38563284/ Important work by Elis Haan, @lehto_kelli, @ESTbiobank & colleagues
Our new paper is out on #ADHD genetic liability and all ICD-10 medical conditions in undiagnosed individuals 👇🎉 We found 80 conditions associated with ADHD genetic risk, emphasizing the importance of timely detection and management of ADHD symptoms! #comorbidity #mentalhealth
📣📰 Using data from @ESTbiobank & #ADHD genetic risk scores reveals this study links ADHD to #COPD, #obesity, & #type2diabetes. 👉🔗 cambridge.org/core/journals/… Great work #EllisHaan, @kristi_krebs, #UrmoVõsa, @IsabellBrikell, @LarssonPsychEpi & @lehto_kelli. @genomicstartu
Amazing lead author Hilda Daníelsdóttir’s work assessing the link between adverse childhood experiences and risk of mental disorder diagnosis in adulthood using co-twin control analysis of 25 252 Swedish twins, just out in @JAMAPsych @UnnurAValdimars jamanetwork.com/journals/jamap…
