Excellent article that clearly lays out how the trial was stacked against EM and the bias against survivors in court. The players’ memory gaps were from alcohol and time but EM’s lack of perfect recall about a deeply traumatic event was evidence she was unreliable. Disgraceful.

I didn't think they'd be convicted. The standard is proof beyond a reasonable doubt. But their behavior was predatory, disgusting, and immoraI. I hope junior hockey (and the NHL) think long and hard about the role models their players ought to be.

Only thing I’m saying on the matter before I log out for the day: Hockey Canada would not have settled with her if the events did not occur. Consent cannot be given under the perceived threat of violence or while drunk. These men are rapists, and they will burn for this.

I worked in advocacy for sexual assault survivors for years because I know several women who experienced what EM went through Hockey players have been doing this for decades That advocacy also made me a police abolitionist bc cops almost always retraumatize more than they help
