Messages from an alternative universe where the PDP-10 is alive and well. ITS research and restoration posted here.
Original CompuServe computer room, 1969. DEC PDP-10 (KA), MA-10 memory cabinets (16K 36 bit words each), RD-10 drum (for swapping), RP02 disk drives, oodles of DECtapes for offline customer storage.
Update - parts for 200 PiDP-1 kits are coming in. We were forced to use sea shipping to keep costs under control. Now writing a PDP-1 programming book(let). Four of us started making some appealing graphics demos with commented step by step source code for it. This will be fun!
Its like a living compute museum @sdf_pubnix is so great. Lifetime ARPA member FTW
I just got the DEC PDP-9 at the Rhode Island Computer Museum to boot the ADSS monitor and run a "Hello World" program again. That again makes it the only running PDP-9. There are no integrated circuits in the PDP-9, just lots of transistors.
Hundreds of DECtapes being processed.
Did you catch yesterday's live stream of imaging DECtapes? You can read about the results and access the images here: icm.museum/blog/?p=241 Like what we're doing? Please consider joining us today!
Someone has NeWS up and running including UniPress Emacs. bsky.app/profile/dvrc.b…

This is the type of display used for SHRDLU.
The DEC Type 340 is on its way to getting a newly implemented controller using modern components. follow the journey on the engineering preservation restoration BLOG icm.museum/blog #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing #1960s #ai
a mock up of the DEC PDP-6. originally the console was crammed into half the space for production, similar to the style of the PDP-5. The type 340 display remained mounted in bay 1 for the first production unit. #history #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #1960s
