AWS have now resolved the issue and connectivity has been restored.
We're investigating an issue affecting some Forge customers using AWS. Impacted servers appear as “disconnected” in Forge. We're working with AWS support to resolve it and will share updates as we learn more. status.laravel.com

Inertia automatically makes a full page visit when the assets have been updated. However, if you want more control (e.g., show a notification to refresh), it's actually quite simple! I found this one in the repo (by @reinink himself!), and it's too good not to be in the docs 👌
