By fighting J, V could finally shake off her guilt(albeit not completely) and face her fears with Uzi and N, who actively supported and genuinely cared about her.
This is mostly why I think the V&J fight in the finale makes a lot of sense. It’s more than just the two of them being on different sides, it’s because J was the side of V that she hated most about herself, the one that succumbed to her fears instead of facing them.
-hopelessness. Her affection for J was mingled with the kind of disgust that you think you have of other people when in reality it’s actually disgust of yourself(self-hatred). It wasn’t a healthy relationship.
However, J was just as damaged and scared as V was — after all, she was the one who chose to follow Cyn’s orders instead of attempting to fight back. She was no better or worse than what V was at that time. V realized this over time and it drove her even further into insanity and
