Katarina Mathernova 🇪🇺
@kmathernova
Ambassador of European Union 🇪🇺 to Ukraine. Former Deputy Director General at DG NEAR European Commission & Head of Support Group for 🇺🇦.
Ukraine has achieved tremendous progress in reforms. Especially during wartime while defending itself against Russian aggression. Now it is as important as ever to preserve the reform achievements to maintain the support needed to prevail over the enemy. @EUDelegationUA
1/2 The G7 is closely following today’s developments at NABU, including the investigation of several NABU employees for alleged crimes. We met today with NABU, have serious concerns and intend to discuss these developments with government leaders.

1/2 G7 Ambassadors welcome the President’s commitment to swiftly restoring and ensuring independence of anti-corruption agencies. Continued progress on anti-corruption and rule of law reforms is a demand of 🇺🇦 society, prerequisite for EU integration and key for business climate.
Talked to newly appointed PG @Kravchenko_RA about the need to continue prosecutorial reform to ensure the rigorous and independent functioning of NABU & SAPO. Maintaining momentum is crucial for accountability for Russian war crimes, including conflict-related sexual violence.

Alongside @ZelenskaUA, opened 🇪🇺 Child Guarantee event. As an EU candidate, 🇺🇦 joins the initiative to ensure every child can access key services. The EU already supports 🇺🇦 children with 1M+ school meals daily, shelters, school buses & more. Even at war, children come first.

EU Ambassadors met today w/@taraskachka - welcoming his appointment as Vice PM for 🇪🇺 integration. We discussed concerns over recent law threatening independence of NABU & SAPO. Strong anti-corruption institutions are key to Ukraine’s path to 🇪🇺.

Constructive and timely exchange with G7 partners, @Svyrydenko_Y & @taraskachka. Looking forward to the draft law announced by @ZelenskyyUa to safeguard the independence of anti-corruption institutions. NABU & SAP must remain strong and independent on Ukraine’s path to the EU.
Today, we had a substantive meeting with the G7 ambassadors focused on one of the most important areas – anti-corruption policy. The Ukrainian Government is fully committed to zero tolerance for corruption. This principle will be clearly reflected in the government action plan.…
Frank discussion with @Svyrydenko_Y and @taraskachka. Expressed serious concerns over the latest Rule of Law developments, especially changes adopted to the law on NABU & SAPO. We'll continue working with Ukraine on the necessary rule of law reforms & progress on its EU path.
Seriously concerned over today’s vote in the Rada. The dismantling of key safeguards protecting NABU’s independence is a serious step back. Independent bodies like NABU & SAPO, are essential for 🇺🇦’s EU path. Rule of Law remains in the very center of EU accession negotiations.
8 endless hours of air raid in Kyiv. A kindergarten, homes, a metro station were hit. People were injured. One person lost their life. Another night of horror and loss, but also anger and despair. We must step up our efforts to put an end to this daily terror.

100 years since the birth of Jacques Delors. A visionary leader, tireless advocate for integration, & champion of civil society. As @EU_Commission's President, he helped create: ✅ the #SingleMarket; ✅ the European Union; ✅ the #Erasmus programme. We honour his legacy.
Great to meet @OleksiiSobolev with the @eu_enlargement_ team as Minister of Resources. As Deputy Minister he was our main counterpart on Ukraine Facility & Ukraine Plan delivering strong results - look forward to continuing our work together.

Indeed! Just as we do when other countries change their names and we adapt — high time now to adjust correct Ukrainian names of cities!!! @EUDelegationUA
Using the correct names of Ukrainian cities isn’t just about spelling – it’s about respect and acknowledging of Ukrainian identity and history. Unfortunately, many international media and organizations still use outdated, russified versions – a legacy of imperial narratives that…
Glad to meet @taraskachka in his new role as Vice‑Prime Minister for EU Integration! He brings long-standing expertise on the EU integration track - especially trade and the Association Agreement. Look forward to working with him on the next phases of accession process 🇺🇦🤝🇪🇺

Joined @EuMordue for an open & focused conversation with Deputy Minister @SergiyKyslytsya. Despite Russia’s clear unwillingness to end the war, Ukraine remains committed to a comprehensive and just peace - in close coordination & with support of the EU & other partners.
18th PACKAGE OF SANCTIONS AGAIN ST RUSSIA ADOPTED BY THE EU!! 🇪🇺🤝🇺🇦 @EUDelegationUA
We welcome the Council's adoption of the 18th sanctions package against Russia for its continued illegal war in Ukraine. This package intensifies pressure on the banking, energy, and military-industrial sectors, while implementing a newly designed, dynamic oil price cap ↓
Congratulations @Svyrydenko_Y and new @Kabmin_UA_e! We welcome continued collaboration in solidarity and support for 🇺🇦. Renewed momentum on reform, the rule of law, anti-corruption, media freedom and civil society is crucial for 🇺🇦’s business climate and Euro-Atlantic path.
11 years ago, Russia shot down Flight MH17, killing 298 innocent people. It must be held accountable - for this and all its other crimes. Truth, justice and full reparations are long overdue.
Statement of @KajaKallas on behalf of the EU on the 11th anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. 👇
Very productive meeting w/@AndriyYermak discussing 🇺🇦 EU accession path and EU support for 🇺🇦 defence industry. @EuMordue @MartaKosEU
I held a meeting with Simon Mordue, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, and Katarína Mathernová, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine. We discussed the implementation of the EU budgetary support…
Just out: @EU_Commission proposes a new 🇪🇺 budget for 2028–2034. Up to €100BN may be mobilised for Ukraine, depending on needs, with military support remaining under the European Peace Facility. Another signal of a long-term commitment & trust in Ukraine’s 🇪🇺 future. 💛💙
Today we present the EU budget for 2028-2034. It's a budget for a new era, that matches Europe’s ambition. That addresses Europe’s challenges. That strengthens our independence.
Good news from the Council! Ukraine is the first country outside the EU and EEA to join the 🇪🇺 single roaming area. A big step forward & a great result of joint work by Ukrainian and EU partners. 👏
Welcome to EU roaming! Вітаємо у роумінгу ЄС! @EUCouncil adopted our proposal to integrate Ukraine into the Roam Like at Home area. From 1 January 2026, all Ukrainians will call, text and surf across 27 EU countries with no extra cost! Ви вдома в ЄС!
