last night the stray cat I've been feeding for over a year finally felt safe enough with me to accept some ear scratches and pets. quite possibly the first time he's ever been pet in his little life❤️ he was purring, too!

in a country plagued by cowardly, unimaginative leadership, I commend every person willing to speak loudly in the name of humanity. shame on the people who stood by and said nothing while this happened
Yesterday, reporter @samhusseini was dragged out of the White House Press Room for asking questions about Gaza. We should all be alarmed by journalists being forcibly removed from asking questions. It’s a step further towards authoritarianism and must not be ignored.
anyone know someone in LA displaced by the fires who needs baby items/clothes? I have a ton of stuff in storage bins and was going to drop it at a shelter but figured I’d ask here first in case it can get to someone direct ASAP

They also said they all wanted to be there & that they see the work as an important way to give back to the community.
Today I was granted access to speak with incarcerated firefighters. They told me: - they hadn’t showered in 5 days - they were not provided regularly meals - they were working 24 hours in a row - they feel under appreciated and underpaid
LA people, if you’re masking outside for the air, please keep them on when you enter indoor public places. Covid is still circulating and hospitals are overwhelmed and we need to protect ourselves as much as possible right now. It’s all connected. Stay safe. I love you all.
As you see fires ravaging the American landscape, note that this is what every House Republican & 45 Democrats are doing right now before the weekend — shielding a government it's given billions of dollars to from international law, so they can send even more money for more war:
The US House has voted 243-140-1 to sanction anyone associated with the International Criminal Court's efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any "protected person" of the US and its allies — namely, Israel. 45 Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the bill.

US Ambassador to Israel: Israel can't be starving these people in that area because they have already ethnically cleansed it.
me on No Other Land, from @TheAVClub's best films of the year list
Beautiful write up of No Other Land.
this is one thing ive been thinking of wrt "the village" -- aunties, sisters, cousins, and even grandmothers are often already straddling paid work *and* caregiving responsibilities, with little social safety net to boot. our lack of villages is imho a macro labor issue!
I have never understood why people are so hung up on their (usually still working) parents doing more than whatever they are able to do as grandparents. It's a set of generational expectations that does not appear to make space for societal changes.
