It's *ok* to be sad that it's over, so long as you're *also* happy that it happened. Thanks to everyone who's come to my classes over the last 16 years - I hope you had as much fun as I did! Stay healthy, wash your hands, and let's do it all again on the other side 😊💪

Not taking sides on this one, but I'm pretty sure that this kind of predatory pricing and supplier pressure by Amazon would be deemed in breach of competition law if it took place in Europe... on.ft.com/3ILWiJs

🛍️ There'll be headlines about #retailsales rising in June... However, quarter-on-quarter growth was flat vs 1.6% in Q1, which was the best quarterly rise since the pandemic. So the bigger picture is that the recovery has stalled, as inflation eats into consumer demand...
🍺 Why, yes, there is Left Handed Giant Brewpub cask on at @SuttonArms. And it has been conditioned beautifully, as per.

🛒 ICYMI, this morning's Kantar numbers... - Lidl within a whisker of overtaking Morrisons - M&S Food +6.5%, even including tail end of cyber problems - What's going on at Co-op? kantar.com/uki/inspiratio…

🛍️ I can understand why the BRC is asking for lower business rates without anyone else paying more tax... But, given the Chancellor keeps telling us there's no money, this is a bit like asking for a council tax revaluation where nobody pays more. Nothing will change.

✈️ What people want to buy at @HeathrowAirport: Greggs, a sub-£2 bottle of water, Boots toiletries to replace those confiscated due to outdated security scanners What Heathrow gives us: Dior, Harrods, WHSmith, and presumably no more Boots? Gee, thanks... forbes.com/sites/kevinroz…

♻️ ICYMI this week's @FT State of Britain (ft.com/content/a46f71…) has an explainer on the dreaded EPR - read why retailers are grumbling about it - and covers @PwC_UK's Store Openings & Closures report from earlier this year (read more on that here: pwc.to/4j1jBLZ)
Is it bad that the first thing I think of when I see this sign is “who’s been cyber hacked now?” (Contactless was working at the branch opposite - phew!)

🛍️💳 It may not be the most talked-about loyalty scheme in retail, but its reach is pretty unassailable: almost ONE IN TWO women in the UK has a @BootsUK Advantage Card… Does any other loyalty programme have as high penetration? boots-uk.com/newsroom/news/…

📈 If you think today's rise in inflation is "unexpected", you weren't paying attention when @the_brc reported a 0.9% rise in grocery prices two weeks ago...

Poundland used to be one of the best operators on the high street... When people ask "what went wrong", ask yourself how many clothes pegs and garden accessories are required by the good people of Camden Town, where NOBODY HAS A GARDEN
☕️ Literally everything that’s gone wrong with Poundland in one very full shelf in a small town centre store…
🛋️ It's great that IKEA is trialling retail park stores (again), but don't forget it closes as many stores as it opens: Stockport, Liverpool, Birmingham city, Tottenham, Tottenham Court Road - it's not afraid to walk away if UK stores don't work... retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2025/07/i…
