Someone just sent me this picture from a New York newspaper of my last college game against Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. on Nov. 23, 1968. I converted six extra points and a 37-yard field goal in our 45-7 victory on a very chilly and windy day.

Gary Sports Hall of Fame 2025 inductee: FAST FACT: Don Leek coached Roosevelt to 4 straight boys state track titles (1959 to 1962), adding a fifth in ‘64. He made his biggest impact becoming city AD in ‘70 and was named Indiana High School Athletic Director of the Year in ‘77.

Happy birthday to former Cubs star outfielder Gary Matthews. I had the pleasure of writing Matthews' life story: "They Call Me Sarge," in 1985. Matthews also was a key member of the 1983 NL champion Philadelphia Phillies and the MVP of that year's NLCS.
