This is utterly brilliant. Drop whatever you're doing -- even if it's your child -- and read it now!

Thoughtful post by @DrJanito. A small quibble: South Africa has not been "silent" on the Ukraine conflict. One may disagrees with SA's approach (i.e., should it be the same as its approach re Palestine?), but re Ukraine, SA has: (1) abstained from UNGA res of 2/3/22...

The object of Cox's rant du jour has spent most of his adult life investigating human-rights abuses in Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan, and Ukraine. Too bad Yousuf's opinions don't count because he hasn't "advised commanders on LOAC for real-time targeting decisions in combat."
I see Yousuf here is committed to acting like an asshole just like his idol @kevinjonheller so often does. That's ok, I have no problem responding to you in the same way I do to Kevin when he is acting like an asshole. You'll notice I pointed out 3 aspects of my 22 year military…
At least Dr. Brian L. Cox is consistent about one thing: he doesn't think someone is entitled to an opinion on IHL unless they have "advised commanders on LOAC for real-time targeting decisions in combat." Zip it, civvies. Maybe try baking scones?

If the #GOP didn't exist, the US could have an amazing high-speed rail network. Perfectly suited for a large country, as China indicates.
The train from Chicago to Miami takes 47 hours. The train from Beijing to Guangzhou, the same distance, takes 8-10. American exceptionalism at its finest!

Enough said.
My friend @USAttyHabba is doing outstanding work in New Jersey — she makes @thejusticedept proud.
Fun fact: in 1970 the #ABA (re)affirmed its opposition to the Genocide Convention, claiming that ratification would "enable Communist countries to haul American citizens before an alien court on charges arising out of racial practices at home and military actions in Vietnam."
Absolutely delighted to see my dear friend from @StanfordLaw, Ed Policy, having so much success in the #NFL. Even if he is becoming the president and CEO of the @packers, the team I hate more than anything. @ChicagoBears for life!
Funny how this person left out G/A. In the EPL, Rice had 4 goals and 7 assists; Caicedo had 1 goal and 2 assists. (And across all competitions, Rice had 9 goals and 10 assists, while Caicedo had... 1 goal and 2 assists.) Must have been an oversight. And where is 2023? #Arsenal
Who is better?
This is a fascinating post -- particularly for those of us who are doing work on law and the Vietnam War.
#SCOTUS’s handling of emergency applications has its roots in the 1973 contretemps between Justices Douglas and Marshall in the Cambodia bombing case. Today’s “One First” takes a deep dive into how it was a harbinger for much of what we’re seeing today: stevevladeck.com/p/168-the-camb…
I really hope @EricaLG didn't write this horrific headline. The R-word is not a "Native American name." It's a racist slur. As is the I-word for many (not all) Native Americans. nytimes.com/2025/07/20/us/…

FYI, @thewarspace.
It's interesting that Yousuf mentions @JaninaDill @tomdannenbaum & @AdHaque110 as his "other favourite scholars who have never jumped out of planes" in a discussion involving professional background between him, me & @kevinjonheller today. These are among the same academics who…
"Whether they represent hostile foreign powers remains to be seen." 😂 (This is the troll who continually refreshes @Alonso_GD's timeline so he can be first to say something stupid in response to one of Alonso's tweets.)
Ironically, as my readers know, I am a very strict positivist. So Heller vs. Cox is not non-positivist (me) vs positivist (him). Cox is just bad at positivism -- because he starts with what he thinks is lawful (whatever the US does) and then reverse engineers the legal argument.

Here's what Cox said: "you could also try telling [KJH] to zip it unless he's advised commanders on LOAC for real-time targeting decisions in combat." I leave it readers to decide whether I've mischaracterized him. 🙄
And I see at least KJH is consistent about having to mischaracterize someone else's commentary in an attempt to discredit them while acting in a manner consistent with his own reputation as an asshole. It was your guy Yousuf who told you to STFU unless you've jumped out of…
Fun fact: this tweet comes from an #MUFC supporter, the club that finished 15th last season, 32 points behind #Arsenal. After finishing behind Arsenal by 29, 9, and 11 points the three years before that. 🔥
Let's face FACTS!... Arsenal are shite. Biggest bottle jobs in the Premier League. Not even fishing by saying this. Arsenal is the NEARLY club and always will be! Arteta is a massive FAILURE. If you ain't first, you're last. Fact! 💯 #Arsenal #COYG
Hey @kevinjonheller, STFU until you’ve jumped out of planes man……
You'll notice I didn't say anything about Kevin being unapproachable or not up for a nuanced discussion. A person can be approachable & still have a reputation as an asshole. This exchange is a good example. Given the timing of Kevin's initial post, I assume he follows Voting…
In case you're thinking about taking this story seriously, note that the author says Twitter's worst era was 2017-2021 -- the "peak woke" one -- not the current era in which "X" has become a racist, misogynist hellscape. (And the theory is basically warmed-over Walter Benjamin.)
“…the viral potential of these kinds of stories is a warning sign that our culture is obsessed with shame, surveillance, and control.” unherd.com/2025/07/the-sa…
