Running bilateral trade surplus/deficits with different countries is the way it should be. Trying to eliminate each one is simply stupid. I have a trade deficit with my grocer, a trade surplus with my employer. I am not sure it would be a great idea for me to work for my grocer.…
One nice model of LLMs is that they make private knowledge public. I haven't seen an economic model written down in quite this form, is there a reference I'm missing? Suppose each person has a given level of productivity at each task, which reflects their knowledge, and…
I hear that many leading researchers currently based at US institutions are thinking of leaving the country. It seems to me a fantastic opportunity for Europe to make a big investment in research and attract those people to come here. 🇪🇺
My brilliant colleague @arash_nekoei is hiring a research assistant to support his fascinating research agenda!
Some wise decision-making from the @ERC_Research! Congratulations to my fantastic office-neighbour (unfortunately on leave) @SorryToBeKurt! 🥳
Humbled and honored to receive an @ERC_Research Consolidator Grant for my project HIPSterMacro: I am super excited for the next 5 years of research and so grateful for the support. Thanks also to all of my co-authors and colleagues for your support to get here!
I am so happy that my friend and colleague @arash_nekoei managed to secure the generous @ERC_Research support for his fantastically interesting work! 🥳🇪🇺

„Ich bin ehrlich gesagt völlig entsetzt gewesen, dass Christian #Lindner diesen Vergleich gemacht hat“, sagt @_FriedrichMerz (@CDU) zu Lindners Aussage, man sollte in Deutschland „ein kleines bisschen mehr #Milei oder #Musk wagen“. #maischberger @DasErste
Agneta Berge, @agnetaberge, is by now probably Sweden's leading expert on the role of labour unions for the economy, with an exciting research agenda covering a broad range of important macroeconomic questions. Interested in those topics? Make sure to get to know her!

Should we subsidise the care for elderly people? Patrizia blends elegant theoretical with excellent empirical work to show that an increase of the subsidy in fact paid for itself. She is an enormously promising researcher. Check out her work!
Introducing our #EconJMC @PatriziaMassner. In her #EconJMP “Should Elder Care Be Subsidized? Theory and Evidence from Sweden” she examines the impact of a 2002 elder care fee reform that lowered costs by 40% on avg. for 2/3 of Sweden’s municipalities. su.se/institute-for-… 1/6
Maybe we should let people make their own life choices? Just a thought...
Instead of teaching fear of pregnancy, we should teach fear of childlessness
I have a massive conflict of interest here, but I cannot recommend IIES highly enough. Outstanding, curious colleagues, flat hierarchies, plenty of research time, vibrant atmosphere. And Stockholm is wonderful any time of the year. Apply!

In March 2020 as covid-19 struck I was in UK govt. I had expertise in vaccine innovation financing so was quickly brought into policy decisions on UK domestic & international covid-19 vaccine policy. Domestically, the UK made a lot of good calls and we got vaccines early... 🧵
Is this truly the account of the Russian politician Dmitry Medvedev? Like, can that really be true?
Those Polacks are cruisin’ for a bruisin’. They’re shutting down our consulate and considering expelling our ambassador. In the 1920s, justice was swift for envoys from enemy countries. Andreyev, Blyumkin and poor German ambassador von Mirbach are examples. Bóbr kurwa!
A well deserved prize to Acemoglu, Johnson, and Robinson for the most important instrumental-variable regression of all time, in their 2001 Colonial Origins paper. Congratulations!
