In the Victorian era, there was a disease: climacteric insanity. It was a form of hysteria which specifically *only* affected women aged 40-60. And these were its symptoms, which might sound familiar to a lot of you around that age... From F. Skrae, 1884.
Love this so much. Did they fruit this year Louise?
As I become ever more obsessed about cultivating #feijoa trees on the alp, my thanks go to A.Gilbert for sending me this #book by @kate_g_evans and hub for bringing back some #jam from the homeland 🇳🇿
Anyone else having problems with @otter_ai this week? Specifically the recording function. Some interviews only partially recorded, others recorded but no transcript available-total pain. Since they limited uploads to 10 per month I can't upload them again either. Alternatives?
Currently reading it to my 7 and 9 year old girls every night and they’re super into it

New: While New Zealand diplomats at the #COP29 climate summit are pushing for a global phase-out of fossil fuels, legislators at home plan to repeal the 2018 ban on new offshore oil and gas drilling within a month of the conference’s end. newsroom.co.nz/2024/11/15/new…

In January, our senior staff will join @bioGraphic, an award-winning magazine powered by @calacademy. Hakai and bioGraphic are both independent, nonprofit publications committed to telling deeply reported and rigorously accurate stories.
I’ve written for both these publications—both are a dream to work with—and I couldn’t be more excited that they’re tying the knot. Will you all give them a wedding present?
It's OFFICIAL. @hakaimagazine will continue; not in name, but in spirit. In January 2025, senior staff from Hakai will be joining bioGraphic magazine biographic.com That means more awesome narrative features and science-based news. But, of course, WE NEED YOUR HELP

Interesting take. Thoughts?
Because I have been engaging with non-environmentally aware people, for over 50 years, I have fully realized just how little environmental awareness, penetrates the mainstream. I've generally avoided environmentalists, because of this. 1/🧵
Jesus christ. I think I need to turn to alcohol or drugs or therapy or SOMETHING. I had seen the AMOC overturning warnings, but I had not seen this graph. I though somehow mostly the North Atlantic and Europe would be affected, but no, it's global boiling. en.vedur.is/media/ads_in_h…
