Late in the second Dustin started using his lead hand as a probe. Handfighting but keeping it stuck out on Max. When you hold onto an opponent like this you can feel their movement and not just see them. The probe makes Max uncomfortable and static, allowing Dustin to tag him.

This clip shows a really active lead hand from Dustin. You can see him scoring and forcing Max to move all around the cage. And on the knockdown Dustin is using his non-committal jab, baiting out a 3 from Max. He switches to orthodox and clips Max behind the ear with a 2.

Here we see Max punish Dustin for a pair of over committals. In the first sequence Dustin has not sufficiently corralled Max and finds himself standing in neutral space. In the second, he just misses as Max is able to slip outside and crack him on the exit.
Part of why Yan uses the long guard is so that he can easily turn his outstretched lead hand into collar ties. This let him smother McGhee's entries then quickly break the clinch with hard strikes and of course that collar tie is how he hits his osoto gari too.
As Dustin looks to work in, right as he starts to commit, Max feints a kick, forcing Dustin to pause right in punching range. Now a stationary target, Dustin gets lit up by Max and wobbled.
