Stop Misusing t-SNE and UMAP! (1) "Verifies" common misuse of t-SNE and UMAP, (2) reveals the causes behind, and (3) guides how to use them properly @ieeevis review said "I do not agree" 🥲 Still, we will keep our effort to disseminate this message 🤣 arxiv.org/abs/2506.08725

The 3rd Korea visualization (K-VIS 2025) workshop will be held at @postech2020 on 11th July (Fri)!! We welcome all those interested in data visualization research (from not only Korea but also other countries) to attend. Visit koreavis.org/2025 to register!

Now is a new application period, during which I received several requests to share my application materials for the Google Ph.D. fellowship. As I benefited from publicly shared resources for my application, I am also making my materials available. hyeonword.com/google_fellows…
Thrilled to receive the Google PhD Fellowship in Human-Computer Interaction and Visualization!! Special thanks to my advisor, Jinwook, wonderful collaborators, @SeoulNatlUni, and @ieeevis community for providing me unlimited support!! Also appreciate @GoogleAI for the honor!!
(1/3) 🚀 Excited to present our work at #CHI2025! Leveraging Multimodal LLM for Inspirational UI Search Session 📍 Innovations in Interaction Design 🗓️ Tue, Apr 29 | 11:10 AM – 12:40 PM | Annex Hall F206
Hope every "student" has successfully submitted their papers to @ieeevis #vis2025!! Now it's time to apply for a student volunteer (SV)! (~Aug 16th) Being an SV helps you connect with fellow students and seniors; it also provides financial support!! vissv.github.io

Please join our @ieeevis panel "(Yet Another) Evaluation Needed?" via Zoom!! 10:15 AM EDT!! We will discuss how many evaluations are necessary to validate research contributions effectively in the visualization field!! vis-panel-enough-evaluation.github.io
Ever wonder if you need '(Yet Another) Evaluation?' in your viz projects? Join our panel #ieeevis'24 to discuss with experts! 🖥️✨ Thursday, Oct 17, 10:15-11:30 AM CST, organized by @jiquad @dalbersszafir, Arran, @jeonhyeon11. Don't miss it! shorturl.at/8aovp
🚀Excited to present Diffusion Explainer at the @ieeevis tomorrow at 1:45pm EST in the AI & LLM session! Try it now: poloclub.github.io/diffusion-expl… #StableDiffusion #GenerativeAI #AI #Visualization #IEEEVIS2024
This evening, members of the core committee, VEC, and IEEE met with the TradeWinds Island Grand Hotel manager for an update on the status of the damages. Unfortunately, the damages are significant enough that we will be unable to hold IEEE VIS 2024 on their property.
I think this take is pretty spot on. The HCI community has spent so much energy on flag-planting papers and low-hanging fruit with LLMs. This trend has taken resources and attention away from deeper, more rigorous, and more impactful work. We’re following ML’s race to the bottom.
Thanks, @IanArawjo for this important and timely article. I am also fed up with seeing so many studies that are LLM-wrappers. LLM Wrapper Papers are Hurting HCI Research ianarawjo.medium.com/llm-wrapper-pa…
Today, @donghoon_io gave a talk entitled "Leveraging Generative AI to Assist Designers in Performing Evidence-based Design Activities" at @SeoulNatlUni !! Thanks Donghoon for an insightful and interesting talk 🙃🙃🙃

Apply to be a student volunteer (SV) in @ieeevis 2024!! Please refer to vissv.org for more details --- see you in Florida!! Form: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…
Thank you for the invite --- was an exciting and interesting experience to share my research with undergraduates 😃
Invited Talks are the students' favorite part of CSE333 Intro to HCI every year. This year we were lucky to have @hcibabyuran, @jeonhyeon11, and @taejunkim_13! Thanks for sharing your exciting HCI research in different time zones and traveling with a suitcase for in-person demo!

Invited talk at UNIST, hosted by @genialee 😃 Such a beautiful nature surrounding the campus. Also enthusiastic undergraduate students throwing sharp questions! What a nice day. Now I’m ready to grind myself for the CHI submission 😅
HCI researcher's paradox: step 1: Realize that we shouldn't just use LLMs to solve any problem. Step 2: Go ahead and apply LLMs to some random problem anyway and write a CHI paper about it. P.S. I might be a victim of this paradox too :-)
I was very happy to attend my first CHI conference in my second year of Ph.D. Study. I gave my first CHI presentation in conversational agents and responsible AI session. I am grateful to meet that many amazing people who inspired my thoughts for my research. Thanks #CHI24.
