Pinto’s committee just approved a budget that does basically the opposite of her Monday proposal to dissolve ONSE. At the urging of her colleagues, Pinto now proposes keeping ONSE. But she says that left no funding for Cure the Streets next year.
Markup is recessed to tomorrow. Pinto tells me she is going to work over the next hours to try and get assurances from the mayor’s office that they can improve ONSE’s operations and effectiveness.

I've been very lucky that the folks at @51stnews have let me start reporting again, but this small-yet-mighty outlet has big ambitions: including hiring me full-time. We'd love it if you'd help support independent local journalism in D.C.! (And thank you a million times. Really.)
The 51st recently hired our first salaried employee (!) by bringing Christina on full-time as Executive Editor. Now, we need to hire Martin as our full-time reporter!!! You can help us get there by tossing a few dollars (or more...) to our fundraiser. 🥳 51st.news/help-us-hire-m…

Just want to stress to readers out there that while we hear your concern about all the changes to our print paper, we on the Metro desk are not going anywhere and remain committed to the mission of local news.
DC @MayorBowser calls @washingtonpost decision to kill Metro section “stunning & unfortunate” “a lot of very important local news our residents like to be informed of. I feel very sad for the staff. I’m also not clear. They really know where the paper is going.” @nbcwashington
We polled each DC council member on the specific changes they are pushing to make to the RFK Stadium deal. Mendelson said he would aim to hold a vote on the deal "as soon as possible" after a public hearing, which was set yesterday for July 29 & July 30. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/…

.@CMCHenderson just introduced a bill to prohibit an expelled council member from serving again for 5 years as ex-CM Trayon White, charged with bribery, is currently running again for the Ward 8 seat. Would have to be ratified by voters as an amendment to the District charter.
