A hesitant sociologist.
I'm EXCITED TO SHARE that my St. Louis ethnography is under contract with @PrincetonUPress! In "Shepherds and Kings" I show how the relationship between diversity projects and donors creates organizational mission drift and why that matters for all of us.

Essay on being a southern Black American during an ongoing global crisis. "I always believed that my Americanness implicated me in the violence of this country, while my Blackness partly absolved me of it. I no longer believe this." shuddhashar.com/the-responsibi…
Every year I complete these end of year reports, I am reminded of the unhealthy amount of work that I do. And not enough rest or engagement with art/creativity.
Every time I talk to the homies I’m reminded of the possibilities of my life beyond production. That Study isn’t always concentrated in the picking up of texts. But in the moments where you choose to spend your living life.
This looks good!! 🤩🔥 Congrats @jelaniwrites & @CoreyMiles__!! 🥳🥳🥳 I can’t wait to read it and incorporate it into a paper I’m working on with @KoreyTillman_ & @_simmyyyyy!!
Thrilled to announce the arrival of this article w/my scholar-brother @CoreyMiles__! Here, we contend with sociology’s inattention to the wake, its ethnographic obsession with observing/recording, and how that obfuscates the representation of black life. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/15…
so much of our academic training constrains our imagination & creativity, Jelani pulled me in & asked me to notice, dream, & think about how we can do this research thing differently. to not just be interested in black life but to care for it

If you read my work, you will find that the claims you are making are thin, at best. But, I know you won’t. It is easier to pull up my profile on your browser. Your book, on the other hand, is on the way from ILL. I look forward to reading it.
@jelaniwrites teaches the sociology of race and ethnicity at the University of Washington, so has made an academic specialty of these issues.
You have highlighted where I work & what I teach in an effort to undermine my credibility as a reliable speaker. So, you *are* interested in dialogue, just a different one. I understand. I stand by what I said and will continue doing my work, as I’m sure you will, too.
I’m not trying to “chop it up.” And I don’t have a troupe. I’m a Christian reporter shining light on a practice I think is unbiblical and destructive to the church.
