This article by @paranoiacs was so upsetting I almost couldn't get through it, but she does a great job laying out what's at stake to music as an artform. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/… ,
I guess what makes the Band so singular is their capacity to find an access point to all of our most extreme, visceral states of being alive: agony, ecstasy, existential comedy, cosmic terror, the weight. So many times Garth was the portal. I had a hard time waking this morning.
The music business can't survive with just the handful of superstars currently at the top of the pyramid, even if they do generate 95% of the money and clicks. Culture doesn't work like that.
Carrying on the tradition of rock journalism as the highest form of cultural stewardship.
"Where what’s real and what’s weird are largely indistinguishable." Rogue criminals, questionable saints, and the rest of the American medicine show writ large. Over at Pitchfork, I published a long meditation on Bob Dylan's "Desire" LP. Check it out here. pitchfork.com/reviews/albums…
Paul rages at the dying of the light and pulls one last mournful jam out of the disappearing sands of time. A pure act of brotherly love. The eulogy the band deserves. @paranoiacs @liamgallagher
I used to dream about being in the Rolling Stone Record Guide, now my biggest ambition is having @paranoiacs tweet about my new album open.spotify.com/album/0Da9zjzC…
Bob Dylan on David Crosby: "Crosby was a colorful and unpredictable character, wore a Mandrake the Magician cape, didn’t get along with too many people and had a beautiful voice — an architect of harmony. He could freak out a whole city block all by himself. I liked him a lot."
8. Twist tuning pegs while open strumming until the chord you never knew you were looking for is conjured forth gifting you the song’s foundation.
"Get Back" was okay, I really wish they had interviewed some of today's top artists for the film. Would have liked to see Dave Grohl say that there wouldn't have been Nirvana or the Foo Fighters without the Beatles, to put the band in historical context
Scored tickets to see @pavement_band at the Kings Theatre a year from now. The dream of the 90's is alive!
Rogue One is the only great film outside New Hope / Empire Strikes back (and The Mandalorian), and really does make the original sing and make more sense if you watch them back to back.
Watching the Star Wars movies in timeline order. If the prequels had just been Revenge of the Sith with a few added lines of exposition and anyone else playing Anakin, people would have loved it.
Ok you learned the solo from sultans or swing or stairway note for note from tablature or YouTube. So what? Play me a solo you made up that is that good
